I'm surprised preservetube didn't get a mention anywhere in the op of the thread.

I find it to be a pretty useful tool to archive youtube videos and it's simple to use too, just copy and paste the youtube url of the video you wanna save. For a quick example, I saved these 2 videos below directly on preservetube.

Just a fair warning, don't go into the latest tab, it's not exactly full of family-friendly content over there.

I've recently started doing this on a minor scale, sites like CNVMP3 are a godsend for this reason and they very easily allow you to download youtube videos up to just under an hour at up to 1080p and I have been spending some of my free time archiving videos I think are both "historically important" and videos I just enjoy watching or think are helpful. I hold them mainly on SSDs and a NAS server I have in my house
