VOICES OF THE VOID!!!!

So... I think I just came across the greatest game ever :D

Ok, bit of an exaggeration but I've been enjoying this game a lot for the past few days.

Quick summary: You're this scientist out in a forest and your tasked with gathering signals from space and maintaining your base. Sometimes weird things happen. Also you can eat roaches in this game. 


It's only in its pre-alpha rn but it already feels like such a full game with how much there is to discover. I'm just so excited to see where its gonna go because again it already feels like theres so much.

Also this is probably the first horror game that feels properly scary! Most of the game you're just kinda exploring and living life. You can decorate your room, eat tv and watch pizza, get annoying email from your managers. Then in the middle of the night you see something in the forest or sky that just makes you go   

That scary/weird stuff happening in the middle of your mundane workday just makes it 10000x more scary. Also a lot of things just feel like the devs are messing with you lol

I absolutely ADORE Voices of the Void!! Recently I've been watching my friend play. So far he is haunted by light orbs and random stars. I'm in love with how it acts like Source, too.

I've been keeping tabs on Voices of the Void for a few months now; I heard the name in passing a few times, so I went into it mostly blind. All I knew was that you had to manage some satellites and track signals; but I'm not dumb either, I knew there had to be something a little more to it XD. After all, you are managing several satellite arrays in the middle of nowhere, what could pawsibly go wrong? >_<  So, I gave it a try and was thoroughly impressed! While I never can get very far before chickening out; I do appreciate the open ended nature of the game and its focus on random encounters; it really sells the atmosphere! It's like you said, the dichotomy of the mundane and the supernatural; but sometimes even the supernatural encounters can be mundane or even funny; further lowering your guard making those scary ones all the more impactful !

But gawd! Most of all, I just adore how it presents itself like a Source engine game despite actually being made in Unreal!   When I first booted it up; hearing the Half-Life menu sounds, the little GMod tool tips pop up, friggen, "NODE GRAPH OUT OF DATE REBUILDING", on loading into the game and then being bombard with every Source sound effect known to man; I was completely fooled! The only giveaway was the awkward control scheme XD. I've played so many GoldSrc and Source engine games/mods so this was really charming; you can tell the dev has alot of respect for that era when these engines were in their heyday. Though, it makes me wonder why the dev ultimately chose to use Unreal?

Don't laugh, but when I first came across this game I decided to try it... and didn't really get the hang of it, even with the tutorial explanations. I got stuck on the tutorial or just after it. It's a shame because it sounds like my cup of tea.

Hey, dont worry about getting stuck! Its one of those games that seem super complicated at first but once you get into the loop it becomes super simple 

What did you have trouble with? I wont lie the tutorial was pretty confusing for me too lol. You might get a better explanation with some guides on YT

Thank you for the tip! I don't remember all that way, but basically I got a signal but I couldn't go through the rest of the steps to process it. I'm definitely going to check some YT tutorials and try again when I've got a bit more free time, and I'll be sure to ask here if I end up getting stuck again :D

I've never played it myself, but I love watching the streamer Vargskelethor play it. It's too scary for me to play it alone lol
