Today I'm happy to announce the release of my new game - Mari Lwyd's Pantri Panic.

It uses the Pico 8 game engine, which is perfect for smaller games, and based on Lua. Every year there's a Pico 8 Advent Calendar game jam that hopefully sees one new game released every day. This year there's looking to be over 25 games, and I'm fortunate that today's is mine.

It builds on the story of Mari Lwyd - a Welsh tradition that sees a ghost horse travel around a town on Christmas Eve and take food from people's houses. In this game, the food has been taken and you simply have to make as many lines as you can.

It's available for free play on Itch (Windows and Mac has a nominal fee to download). Hope you like it!

You did an excellent job! I love how there's not a timer so I don't have to get all flustered, but you still get that incentive to take more risks for those higher combos. The theme is great too. I'm not Welsh myself, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Mari Lwyd due to its slightly macabre nature.

This is indeed fine! Liked both the straight-line gameplay and the visual design :).

I know the figure of Mari Lwyd mainly from this wonderful Shirley Collins music video; I was also once told that around Christmas, there are people in Wales who dress up as Mari Lwyd and ask for entrance into houses - the inhabitants have to make up excuses to fend them off. If they fail to do so, the Mari Lwyd emtpies their booze hoard, but I don't know if this tradition is, or was ever, really alive
