I haven't had internet for some time now and I spent most of my gaming time on my hacked 3DS! It's such a joy. The system is genuinely amazing, very endearing and the collection of games RULES. Just playing back some old DS classics is so much fun and I love how accessible the hacking process has become at this point. I remember how messy hacking my Wii or WiiU was. It's so cool how you have this very interactive homescreen and you can line up all those funny custom badges, make copies of your DS games and play around with save files.

For as much as I love my homebrewed 3DS, I don't really play ROM hacks. Closest I've gotten to that is completing some of Pokemon Quartz.

For finding Romhacks I like to use the classic RomHacking.net

They apparently announced they are shutting down yesterday Even as only a very causal rom hacker this seems like a big loss!

Thankfully the whole site is up as an archive here and might be worth saving a copy of!

I wonder what the new alternatives will be, it seems hard to imagine there wont be some new options since this is such a popular topic; but I also wonder if it'll ever capture the same mood as 00s era rom hacking ~ prob not, but sometimes an end is also a beginning ^^

There's scene drama behind romhacking.net 's shutting down. https://cohost.org/gideonzhi/post/7131478-rip-rhdn I read it, but if i'm going to be honest i don't terribly care about the interpersonal fighting. im just apathetic about that bit, sorry. but.

the most interesting thing to me is that a number of people have reached out to take over. in the replies to the linked post, one of the webmasters of The Cutting Room Floor has said she's reached out to take over. sounds like a good match.

I do think a takeover or revival is likely, people heavily involved in the scene want a site like this to exist. The second most interesting thing is the idea of modernization and updates and backend improvements. Other sites in similar scenes like TASVideos and SMWCentral have seen wonderful modernizations over this past decade, and an updated romhacking site would be a dream. I wish good luck to the inevitable reboot.

Lets not settle for recapturing 00s romhacking... lets keep things moving forward!!

Thanks to stuff like open_gba_firm i can now natively run gba games natively on my hacked 3DS. (i know some people use the injector but i think it makes me waste too much time and I prefer to simply upload roms to my sd card and have them work right away)

Any I´m currently playing a rom hack called Pokemon Unbound I found by accident its one of the rom hacks that has retroachivements


then there is seaglass where you play the hoen region with a gbc aethestic
