Hey guys, ive been spending the last few days archiving some pretty old VRML websites made from the 90s. Ever since i watched Vinnys VRML exploration video, its had me pretty interested. The whole idea of a lost 3d web that once existed is super intriguing, so i did some archaeology and I found some insane stuff. Not just VRML related, but stuff like croatian shareware, C coding competitions, and a website from 1994. If you wanna see the original directories, here are the links:
Im having some issues with uploading the archive onto Catbox, but as long as these sites are still online, you can check em out there or until i get the whole archive posted on archive.org
To check out these vrml and x3d worlds, use this X_ITE viewer addon that i ported from Chrome to Firefox! Its by Sgeo and I ported it so you can view VRML and X3D worlds like you were supposed to do in the 90s. Its not a verified addon yet, so unless you have a dev version of Firefox, you'll need to go to about:debugging and add it there.

This firefox plugin works really well! It would be worth getting it signed, I did it a few months ago and its not too hard. Thank you for collecting these links!

I found a super weird object called the crank.. http://home.snafu.de/hg/vrml/avatars/crank.wrl I hope it does not show up in any dreams  :ohdear:

@Melooon check this site out! https://tecfa.unige.ch/guides/hypermail.html it dates from July 13 and August 1 of 1994, making it about as old as some of the first websites. Also these https://tecfa.unige.ch/guides/vrml/examples/worlds/ worlds here are super trippy. Reminds me of those weirdcore games ive played on Roblox before. Theres also this http://home.snafu.de/hg/vrml/archive/www.modvr.com/movies/ perfect archive of the modvr movies website from ~1998. Its in such good condition that I can play all the little movie clips and games on it! Also this is kind of an interesting rabbit hole. Its sort of like an early predecessor to our indie web and open source thingy http://ftp.carnet.hr/misc/lpf/
These are all too interesting. i could go on forever about this stuff i discovered.

Also what the frick is that thing. Scary...  :trash:

Someone's been trying to revive them in the form of webspaces.

If you don't me asking, should I repost your links elsewhere, to properly archve them?
