So my Guestbook has been down for awhile now due to 123guestbook shutting down, but even when it was up I was just using it as a temporary solution.  And now I want to implement the real solution but despite all my search engine results I'm at a loss.

So what I would like to set up is less of a Guestbook but more of a page where people leave comments and I can respond to them.  For examples, I really like Bill Wurtz's question page and Brutalmoose has something similar although Bill has something closer to what I'm trying to achieve.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!  :ozwomp:

ayano's comment widget has replies, and kalechips has a php guestbook that also has a reply function. if those aren't possible you could embed a retrospring iframe or make it a plain old html form and use some kind of form host. 32-bit cafe has a list of some form hosts on the resources list! or you could just stick your email address on a page and tell people to send you an email haha.

Doing this dynamically requires a server side scripting language (like php). This is, as far as I know, not possible if you use Neocities.

The easiest workaround would be to just create a static html page and showing an mail where people can write their questions to. It is well possible that the first link you gave does practically the same (with the E-Mail being sent via the form where the question is entered, which again, requires php). The second link is also an alienated guestbook; if you can find a new provider, this is also a rather simple option.

In case you have a Discord account, you could also try this method in which you create a form using Discord. The way it works is that people can send you messages through a textbox on your site and, in turn, you will receive them via a Discord server. It will not automatically embed each sent question to your site (it will only send them to the Discord server), so you could choose which questions to reply to and add them on your page manually.

Note: I have read that Neocities blocks external server requests in newer accounts, so I am not 100% sure it will work for you if you are willing to utilise Neocities with a recently-made account. You could test it out if you want nonetheless!

I didn't see, are you able to use PHP/databases on your site, or are you hosting with somewhere like Neocities?

If it's the former, this is going to be a matter of setting up a database and using PHP to script this. There's some considerations there, too, like making sure the input is sanitized and such.

If not, or if you're like me and don't have the PHP/SQL chops to put that together yourself, embedding a guestbook that allows you to reply to people who leave messages is an option. I'm using Bravenet's guestbook on my site, which might be a nice option for you. It allows for some customization of the form text, so you can change it so people can send you questions if you want.

Okay, thanks for the feedback everyone!  I have been using Neocities, which is nice because it's cheap, but it sounds like it'll be a wall when it comes to making something like this.  Guess I might have to do some browsing around to find an alternative, or maybe throw in the towel and have a normal guestbook, another project for another weekend I suppose!

@Eunice recently recommended x10hosting in a thread. Apparently, they support what you need (php/databases) in their free tier, but require you to login once per month.
