https://acatalepsy.neocities.org/colorlessgreen !

i sat down this evening and wanted to make something! inspired by the sentence that goes "colorless green ideas sleep furiously" (intended to show the inadequacies of certain grammatical models, published in the book syntactic structures by noam chomsky). it is "grammatically well-formed but semantically nonsensical"; most if not all of what the website generates will be too. the code is awful and messy (my first time working with js) and the html/css is nonexistent, but it works (feat. random number generation). (kind of. i haven't figured out how to make things plural properly. nor how to not have punctuation in a row.)

the sentence also inspired a good few written works which attempt to interpret and add meaning to it. it's pretty cool. i plopped a text box u can type directly in if you click onto something interesting and wanna flex your writing muscles! or do something! this page offers interesting information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorless_green_ideas_sleep_furiously#Attempts_at_meaningful_interpretations

hope it brings some joy to u all : )

(..oh man.. just realized this is kind of my first actual website.... and it wasn't even like a mainpage or something......)

pretty interesting concept! it's fun trying to make sense of the generated sentences only to unsurprisingly arrive at the conclusion that you can't lmao

I particularly liked this one it generated for me "the dancer dude pretends the volume correctly "

Also I just realized this is a great tool for password generation unironically, kinda following the well known "correct horse battery staple" format.

I'm enjoying playing around with this, thank you!

generated, after a dozen or so clicks, 'cross-stitch , evil tips , all - dollop longingly' which I rather like. I think 'to dollop' is a pretty good way to describe the act of cross-stitching (a hobby of mine). evil tips can be interpreted in several ways, but I choose, for now, tips of needles (cross-stitch needles, of course, though you usually only need one on any given project). when you partake in cross-stitching, you could say you dollop (are dolloping?) and the needle-tips dollop along with you. And of course you're longing, too, because you're a human being and you're alive. or something.

or something!!!!! rng and the human... : )

in other notes i sat down for another few hours and reworked the js for it. still a bit messy but a hell of a lot better than before, and should be easier to modify to add stuff later on too. i guess this is a project now. i also threw in some chance based "easter eggs" because those r always fun.

the button for the first version is still there. im curious to know if you guys notice any signficant or just vibe-based difference between the two (other than their respective punctuation errors).

this is a great idea for a generator!! "some delectable capitalisms instance covers the security continually" tickled me. you can imagine this cropping up in some snarky news article about tech
i think for the punctuation thing you'd need to check if it had already used punctuation and then re-randomise if so, which i tried to do in this generator i wrote a while back to ensure if it generated multiple locations it wouldn't get the same one twice, but the way i tried to do it for mine doesn't actually work and just makes the generation fail so you sometimes have to press the button multiple times :drat: i haven't taken the time to go back and attempt to fix it...

update 3: woke up this morning and realized the generator still was only linked to the old code. fixed it and now the buttons work properly.
