I've had a pretty big collection of sites over the last 25 years (oh man) I think my first site was on angelfire and then I was hosted by other people for a long time (is that still a thing people do?) until my uncle bought me my first domain name in 2002.

I wish I had more screenshots from those times!!

I managed to find a couple from 2007 on the wayback machine (attached) but everything earlier is lost to the sands of time...

I'd love to see other folks old website if you have any old screenshots!

(ps I totally cringe when I read old stuff I have written so I apologize for the cringe factor)

I've managed to find some of mine on the archive. My biggest regret is that, as we switched to a computer that didn't use discs, I wiped the discs and got rid of them. I wish I had kept them. So take note and keep copies of all your layouts somewhere.

And oh yes, some people do still host others. Have a look at the forum at The Fanlistings. There are some folks there who host.

I've kept screenshots around from every time I would change my layout, which used to be constantly. The ones I didn't manage to lose I put on my About the Site page. There are a few that aren't around, though, and I kind of miss them. Creating layouts used to be a certain artform for me, so I switched it up often.

Also, my old Atspace is still around, and I recently regained access to it: http://spiffyhink.atspace.com/

Oh no way I think I recognize some of these screenshots from back then, I wonder if we were in similar circles or something.

That's crazy! Although it may be that some people are just always going to be drawn to the indie web, you know? I was big on Livejournal and I think that's where most of my traffic came from at the time.

I actually have several old zip files downloaded from different time periods, so I still have the old layouts of my website. While the general theme of the site didn't change, the current look looks more complex, the most noticeable part is having two sidebars instead of one.

I think it is nice to look back at my old stuff, I enjoy keeping my old creations (like my drawings) just to see how far I've come.

Behold! The oldest picture I have of my homepage, from mere days after I created it. Look at those saturated colors and despairrrrrr

The layout itself hasn't changed much but it definitely looks a lot nicer now...

I'm kind of breaking the rules here a bit since my site isn't really years old in fact it's not even one yet at the time I'm writing this. But my site did change a lot in that time frame my original layout wasn't all too good

Yea... at the time my only experience with HTML, and CSS was the computer science class I took last semester. I had no idea what a div was, everything was unorganized, I had no name for the site, all the pages used the same background. Long story short it was not good. My scope for the site was also was too big, I had so many ideas, and thought I could do it, which was a bad idea as a beginner to anything not only coding. Now my scope for the site is a lot more smaller, and the layout while not perfect is 1000x better, and more pleasing to look at.

Not "many" years ago, really, but someone apparently archived my old URL a bit!
I have snapshots of it from 2022 as a result and omg my site looks so BABY compared to now, this was back when I was re-learning the bulk of my html knowledge! Like look at this, y'all, this is one of the earliest iterations of my site I can see and it feels so nostalgic to look at TwT.

There are actually about 30+ captures of my older URL and it's SO interesting bc I can see the exact point where I landed on my homepage layout that I still have! You can also see roughly when I changed URLs, too - sometime between jan 30th 2024, and feb 17th 2024 -  bc I kept my old URL as a redirect :)

I found this extremely tiny image of prob my first site from around 2007!!

It was for Frog & Wood which was an imaginary software/art company I made when I was about 12.

Its very hard to read but as best as I can tell the text says:
Quote
Due to the lack of a company there is a lack news, therefor no news can be put in this news box!

Oh what a shame it is to have a news box with no news. Oh how crappy it must be knowing that its only pourpose is to provide news and it cannot do so.

But yet in its lack of news it has indeed provided news. Oh dear .. Im confused.

Sadly I never published my very early Websites, and I am horrible at keeping my files in order, so stuff got deleted. My First Public Site is also not Achieved. But that was 2019 and a boring CV Website. But my Mother is a Web Designer who made websites. So this Post made me Checkout the Archive and well, there is a Snapshot from 2004. Back then she used the Website as a Sharing Platform for my American Side of the Family.
