My name is Holly (she/her) and I'm super excited to join MelonLand! I was a biggg online forum user lurker growing up in the 2000s, and I'm trying to (in all areas of my life) become less of a lurker and more of an active participant. Sooo here I am, giving it a go!

Some things about me: I am originally from the US but currently live in Spain. My interests include reading novels and various nonfiction, listening to and learning about expansive genres of music, traveling, writing for my blog, and I'm trying to start podcasting!

For about a year, I've had the idea to create a podcast compiling audio histories of defunct virtual spaces of the past, to build an archive of emotion/feeling/stories to complement visual elements may linger around in screenshots and wayback machine caches. One of my goals is to /go after things/ and /follow through/ soo I have set a loose goal to complete 8 episodes, covering children's virtual worlds of the late 2000s-early 2010s, by the end of the summer. We will see how that goes. If anyone is interested in helping out with this project in any way, whether its sharing your stories of your previous times online or sharing any podcast-related expertise, please reach out! I'll probably make a more formal post on a different board at another time to find participants, but I'd love to get the ball rolling!

Anyway, I stumbled upon this forum while doing some initial research for this project, which is very much still in development, and became excited by the prospect of finding an online community of people who are as passionate, nerdy, and miss the old internet as much as I do. I haven't made a personal site yet, and tbh that may not happen for quite some time, but I'd like to learn!


That's all ~~~ I am excited to be a part of a creative online community and can't wait to exercise a more play-based (whimsy-centered) and participatory approach to my time online (I can't survive another decade of doomscrolling ...)

Hey, I love that podcast idea. Good luck getting it started! I don't have any expertise researching that kinda thing but I might have the capacity to talk about my time playing Animal Jam and Fantage as a kid. I used to be glued to those sites. I remember playing games on the Disney and Nickelodeon/Noggin kid's websites too.

I think that podcast is a fantastic idea and while I don't think I would have anything useful to contribute, I would love to keep up to date on it's progress because it's definitely something I would be interested in listening to! You have some pretty solid goals right now, and even settling on a goal or two can be really difficult, so good for you for getting to this point.
