Bill Engvall is retiring, who got you into stand-up?

I remember being on a camping trip in my early teens, and raising an eyebrow as my friend just sat in a chair wearing headphones and chuckling.  When I asked what was up, he explained what stand-up comedy is.  Until that day, I'd never heard of the concept of a guy just telling joke after joke, but that Bill Engvall: Here's Your Sign CD was my first foray, and I've never been the same since.  And now, two decades later, he's performed his final show.  And he is still the Bill Engvall I've known and loved all these years.  It's sad to see him go, but I'm glad he gets to go out on his own terms.

If you're into stand-up comedy, do you remember who you first listened to?  Or was there anyone that really dug into your subconscious, and you quote all the time?

I'm not really a huge standup fan, but the first I recall really loving was Bill Hicks.  Sadly he passed in '94 at the age of 33 from cancer.  I also love Dave Chapelle.

I'm relatively young, so mainly John Mulaney. I stayed up really late one night just watching his specials on Netflix.
