I know the title might sound contradictory but I swear it makes sense

I don't really have a ton of multiplayer games since most of my friends aren't gamers so what even is the point of buying a game like that if I'm rarely going to get the chance of playing it so most of the time when I want to play games with other people we end up playing a single player game and either we take turns with the controller or one of us plays and the other watches and gives commentary (usually the one watching is someone who already finished the game)

One time I heard someone call this couch streaming since it's kind of like streaming because you're playing a game and other people interact with the game by telling you what to do and giving commentary but it's only your friends chilling in your house and I liked that name so I'm using it too!

And I was wondering, does anyone else also do this? and if so what are your favorite games to do this with?

My #1 pick is comedy stuff, I love seeing other people's first reactions to jokes that I find absolutely hilarious, every time I get the chance to I love making my friends play The Stanley Parable while I just sit and give omminous hints of where they should go for a funny ending

Horror games are also really fun for this because it's way less scary when you have a friend beside you   :unite: and you can even laugh at the scares, this is how I first played At Dead of Night and it was such a fun experience, my friend would constantly touch my back every time there was a jumpscare to make me think there was a ghost behind me and he did it like 100 times and it always got me 10/10, would recommend

Those 2 are the only ones I've done this with so I would to hear other good options!!!

Aw, you remind me I used to share Pokémon Colosseum/XD with my cousin by splitting the team: three Pokémon for him, three for me  :dog:
Each one had full control of which Pokémon to use and what moves to give them, and since the games had almost every battle be a double one, we'd have one Pokémon from each "personal team" on the field at all time and we'd take turns with the controller to choose what our next move would be.

Nowadays I don't have friends in the physical world who I could invite to my house to do this, or a more chill "one plays and we comment on it" approach like you mention  My bf sometimes streams what he plays (Hollow Knight, Dark Souls...) and I look at it and we have some casual chat, I ask him things about the games, we make jokes and help with advice on segments  :innocent: Recently we did something similar but with games we haven't played yet, that's how we ended up "couch streaming" Hypnagogia and Baba is You, among many other smaller indie games.

For a game to play with friends this way, either in person or online, I recommend The Sims. That's another game I streamed for my bf and it was fun when I was figuring out the game and trying and failing to make my Sims kiss  I think games that easily lend themselves to chaos (Sims, GTA, Palworld, Minecraft...) are great for this. Even if many of these have integrated multiplayer, I really like setting things on fire, building questionable things, or setting myself on fire

I've really enjoyed "couch streaming" Portal with people. Also Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

I'd totally be up for "backseating" a couch streaming sessino of somebody doing their first playthrough of Dispatch. Or Firewatch. Or Outer Wilds.
