i was wondering if anyone else is really sentimental about their favorite pokemon, or have a story as to why they love it so much?

my favorites switch up a lot as time goes by, when i was 12 my absolute favorite pokemon ever was mewtwo. after i watched the first movie i became completely obsessed with him. i was so fascinated by the idea and concept behind him, being a man-made and genetically engineered pokemon and trying to figure out why he's here and why people made him. after i watched the movie i made multiple original characters inspired from him, watched the short that went along with the movie on youtube SO many times, and he was just all i could think about, really.

now i'm 24 and have been appreciating him and the movie a lot again. recently i got a couple little figures of him from the 90s, an entire trading card frame with only mewtwo cards, and i got one of those golden cards of mewtwo with the pokeball case for christmas this year!

i've loved mew basically as long as i can remember. not sure why, but probably because it's pink, cute, rare, and powerful lol. now that i'm older, i just love that balance of playfulness and power, and the mystery and whimsy that come with that. also, i remember spending hours trying to get mew in the first mystery dungeon game... and my favourite pokemon movie was lucario and the mysteries of mew.

other favourites of mine are similarly either based on aesthetics and/or personal memories. turtwig because the first game i reall played through was diamond, clefable because it's adorable, aggron because it was my first-ever shiny back in X... and i recently became much more fond of meganium and froslass since using them in legends z-a

I'm not big on Pokemon but I recently got Gothorita in Pokemon GO and it has to be my new fav. I have a big liking for goth-like stuff.

i love goomy because they are 1. a little guy and 2. a slime and also they are just so so cute :D My second favorite pokemon, ditto, also has like a similar reasoning but their base form is SLIGHTLY less cute than the goomy of all time. Theres also a miscellaneous collection of smol pokemon that i love but not as much as the main two.

My favorite Pokemon in general is Gyarados. I take it as a great symbol of power and overcoming the odds. Because Magikarp at various points in the series are listed as,"the most useless Pokemon", that most don't make it to evolution. It's discounted and seen to be food or a failure, but Gyarados as a pseudo-legendary is a power house and while I don't play competitive anymore for the majority of my youth was always fairly high ranked.

I don't have any tattoos but I always said when I finally started succeeding in my career I would get a Gyarados tattoo to celebrate.

It's rather morbid: After adding Zapdos to my LeafGreen team (as I caught it with a Masterball, it had to be used), I quite liked its downpitched cry whenever it would faint. Yeah, it's really just that. :drat: I grew a lot of fondness for it by using it over time.

Zapdos as my top fave quite contrasts with my other favourite Pokémon. Dunsparce, Flaaffy, and Rowlet I like because they are fucking adorable, and Shedinja's void nature speaks to me in some way.

I can never pick a top favorite of anything but here's some of the pokemon I like the best:

Latias - cute design. awesome aeromorph dragon. can be interpreted as being sapient and having some kind of a society which is EXTREMELY fascinating. has a somewhat water association which i like.

Reuniclus - extremely clever concept, very cute creature. i feel like reuniclus is generally underappreciated but it FEELS like it should be more popular than it is?

Furret - im a big weasel fan and this thing is just cute. delightful to imagine it doing activities. the shiny is one of my favorite shiny palettes of all time

Mew - this thing is like one of the creatures of all time to me. i cannot explain it. one of the longest lasting favorites

my favorite pokemon since being a little kid was bulbasaur because i had a huge bulbasaur plushie as a kid that id sit on and pretend i was riding it like my own noble steed. ironically i did not actually touch a pokemon game till well into adulthood, but the game that i played was leafgreen and sure enough my starter was bulbasaur  :wizard:

I am EXTREMELY sentimental about my favorite Pokemon. I hope you don't mind me yoinking my explanation from my webshrine (and the length, which, believe it or not, is actually cut down from the shrine, as indicated by the '...'s):

"My first exposure to Pokemon was in Kindergarten. ... When I saw a Pokemon movie playing on the TV before school, I watched it as I ate my breakfast. That movie happened to be "Pokemon 4Ever", the Pokemon movie starring Celebi. ... This was the beginning of, what turned out to be, a lifelong interest in and passion for the Pokemon series.

The first Pokemon game I ever owned, and the first video game I ever owned in general, was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. ... My favorite character was Grovyle, and, since I was and remain to be a big fan of shipping, I was very excited when I saw that there was a special, pink Celebi that had a crush on him! I immediately grew very attached to her ...

When I obtained my first mainline Pokemon game, HeartGold and SoulSilver, I often myself restarting the game over and over. ... Because of this, I found myself traveling through Ilex Forest a lot, as it was located pretty early on. I don't think I even knew that the shrine at the time was for Celebi? What I do know is that I was fascinated by the shrine. ... I would always backtrack to hatch the Togepi that Elm gave me in Ilex Forest for this reason – this place was clearly very special, as the shrine indicated, and I wanted this baby Pokemon to be blessed by the forest and whatever deity watched over it.

Some time later, a new generation was on its way out, and, with it, a new movie. That movie was Zoroark: Master of Illusions! I rewatched that movie over and over. I had a strong connection to it, and its easily the movie that I have the strongest memories of. In that movie, in a leading role, was Celebi! ...

When I began to become more interested in the human character-based side of the franchise, one of the characters I immediately took an interest in was Silver, the rival from that first mainline Pokemon game of mine. I quickly come to find that, thanks to Celebi, we get to travel back in time and learn more about Silver's past in, what I still consider to be, one of the coolest Pokemon events we've ever gotten! Not only that, but the only way to obtain Zorua (another one of my favorite Pokemon) in Black and White was through bringing a Celebi to a transformed one!

It seems that, wherever I went throughout my early Pokemon journey, Celebi naturally followed. ... It was a Pokemon that somehow accompanied me consistently. And it was fascinating to me. I loved that it had a shrine, that it was worshiped. Though Dialga, Palkia and Arceus more so fit the description of "Gods of Pokemon", I was never interested in the idea of Gods big, as all-powerful, world-defying beings. ... I was always more interested in Gods as small, mysterious little beings, sometimes with a mischievous streak, with powers to heal and bless. That is exactly why I loved Mew so much as a child. I believed, and still believe, that to be chosen by a God like that would be a true honor.

As for myself right now... I am someone with a lot of anxiety. Especially about our earth's future. I've been brought a lot of comfort by Celebi. I know it's not real, but just the idea is comforting. A little fairy with the power to make forests bloom, promising those who see it that a happy future awaits us. Plus, the idea that it's been following my Pokemon journey, watching over me, this small deity of the forest... It just makes me really, really happy."

my favorite mon is decidueye. and no, it's not because it's an owl. or rather... it's not just that

decidueye is basically an owl in a nutshell: cool, mysterious, wielding spooky powers, and of course, oddly adorable. that is everything an ideal owl character should be
