@ヤーナム this seems incredibly promising, only missing the ability to let users vote on the entries. I wonder if the entries in classic topsites moved up and down the list by their own or the webmaster would switch their position every once a while. I'd love to talk with someone that actually managed one back in the day, I'm sure it was something way easier than what my mind is imagining haha

Thanks! <3 If voting to move links up and down is a feature you would find useful it wouldn't be too hard for me to add.

Typically in the old days topsite entries would move up/down based on "hits", e.g. the number of times the link was clicked from the topsite. It was very easy to cheat haha. Also in the age we're in now of more than 50% of web traffic being crawler bots it would take aggressive filtering to get right.

That's also a feature I could implement. Though to be honest I was imagining linklists more cooperative than competitive, but as additional options it wouldn't hurt too much. Just have a "Topsites Mode" toggle or something.

I think it'd be really cool if people could leave short reviews for sites... i think itd be neat if you could just write a little blurb of Why you like the site when you vote!

Yep, as mentioned in my OP topsites feel, for better or worse, competitive by nature and with how the smallweb is moving, I can understand why a ranklist based on hits doesn't sound too alluring compared to webrings, banner exchanges or listings, who have already installed themselves as staples in the new-old-web.
I suppose a system (I imagine it styled like a poll) in which users can anonymously cast their votes once per day, even on multiple choices at once, may result in a more interactive, game-like rank. Maybe it'll feel less competitive that way.

Short reviews mentioned by @wolfkitty42 sound cool but it's either that or anonimity in casting votes, and I think that's important to avoid competitiveness.

Whoa, I'd almost forgotten about topsites! I vividly remember now that Mugglenet had a topsite listing that I submitted one of my websites to (sorry to reference that fandom, it's just what I was involved with back in my early web days) so I looked it up on the Wayback Machine... Looks like their topsite listing ran on AutoRank PHP. This is all I was able to find: https://www.needscripts.com/Resourse/17917.html The original source for AutoRank PHP is not available in the archive, unfortunately.

Found this on GitHub, which might help? https://github.com/theAsgar/Aardvark-Topsites-PHP
