:dog: star3462.net :dog:

After many years of wishing I knew how to code, I have finally started coding my own site!!!! It works on desktop and mobile :-) and after much trial and error I managed to host it on a site that is NOT neocities!

There’s mixed reviews for like every web host out there, but in particular I came across anecdotes of …unprofessional… behaviour re: nekoweb and neocities owners. And I fully support being silly but I do think there are certain standards to uphold when you’re receiving peoples money!!
No shade to those hosting on those platforms though. I think if nothing else they are definitely accessible!! I spent the better part of today figuring out how to upload my site using WSL and rsync functions + I’m still a noob :p

Anyway, I don’t have much up yet, but I do have my first blog post up! My birthday gift to myself tomorrow is a chill day doing whatever I want, and that will probably be coding some pages that are either galleries or personal compilations/shrines to things I like :p

I’m also planning to redo the entire layout at some point. But at least for now this works as a starting point :3

let me know if u have any suggestions or feedback too!!! Okay thanks love u melonland xoxo  :4u:

A very lovely website! I left a comment in your guestbook!

Who are you using as the hosting? I want to start looking into alternatives, so i can utilize more dynamic content and PHP.

It may be due to your host, or the quality/size of the images, but some of the content on your site was taking a while to load on my end. Maybe my internet is just acting up as well...

Just wanted to give a friendly heads-up that there could be some performance improvements / considerations to make, at least for the near future once you start adding a lot more content! I recently had to add lazy-loading to a lot of the pages on my site.

What a cute and cozy site! it already looks very promising and indeed it works well both on desktop and mobile. Good choice on its structure! I'm also always happy to see art on sites, I love your cat sketches omg <3

Also, yay another personal domain user! Love to see more! I personally use both options and I agree Neocities/Nekoweb is a good training grounds if just for small and simple projects, so my mainsite is elsewhere. I needed all the space available xD
Using actual hosts (not saying Neocities isn't, but... you know there's still a difference) helps practicing with more complex and solid tools so there's an advantage in starting with a "full immersion" in web making.

I agree the pictures (like the squared paper used as background for some boxes) load slowly and would probably benefit from optimization. Since it's a squared texture, why don't you try saving it as just one "square" and having it repeat? It'll give you the same result and will load much quicker :) While we're talking about those same boxes, I'd say a liiiitle bit of padding between the text and their edges would instantly improve their readability! ^^

One last suggestion, don't forget to add a links section! No site is an island <3

@tanuki thank u for the lovely comment yay!!! i'm using nearlyfreespeech.net! & it's the size of the images, i'm working on it hahah. this was my first try at making a layout so now the ball is rolling i will be remaking all the pages slowly and optimizing images much more effectively xD

@ValyceNegative thank u smsm!!! oooo i could definitely try that for the grid texture. noted on readability!!
links sections will be coming soon i think :3 i definitely have sites that have inspired me that i'd like to point to !!
