WeVidi: Whats the consensus?

Hey so I was wondering what the consensus is on WeVidi as an old yt clone. I discovered it a little while ago on Ytoo! but I was on Vidlii and Bitview then so i didnt pay much mind to it.

this is mostly due to the recent stuff with Bitview. Ive heard mixed messages but it kinda sounds like its shutting down which leaves me on Vidlii. Vidlii functions just fine, buuuuuut ive heard its home of shock videos and bad things. I havent personally come across anything but it might not be the bets place to post my stuff. WeVidi seems like a good option due to their not "free for all post whatever" policy and plus- I REALLY like the UI and Logo. Its probably my fave rendition of it yet.

I just dont know if there is any drama I should be aware of. Like, idk, its not nearly as well known as Vidlii or Bitview (which may be a strength) and I haven't heard a lot about if its considered good or bad.

So like, for people who know about it/use it, whats the deal? is it a good place or bad or toxic or what?

I had never heard of these! only PeerTube, which has very little content last I checked. So thanks for sharing!  

my solution to the enshittification of YT was to stop watching videos :( but seeing these pages makes me so nostalgic, I have the urge to make AMVs! maybe I could get back into it...!

the youtube clones keep dying and/or contain unsavory stuff this makes them a lot like roblox revivals actually. i dont know what poison is contained in revival communities that makes them evil... i want to get into making classic style youtube videos but with scenes like this it feels hard to get attached to anything long enough to make an account T_T thats a big shame

I don't really know much about WeVidi BUT MY GOD DO I KNOW VIDLII, I remember going on there and the frontpage was nothing but execution videos, gore cartel videos, neonazi and just UNHINGED shit . glad I heard that they cleaned up the site but I don't think I will be moving off of youtube anytime soon.

It might be me, but all of the YT-alternatives above seem somewhat dire to me - most of the categories have barely videos showing, and those that are available seem to be of rather poor quality.

I believe that the idea of "imitating" Youtube can't really work, as much of the appeal of Youtube stems from the option to see copyrighted content - and this is not available to the clones, as they would get DMCAed to ground in the blink of an eye, and since there is hardly an audience for anything without the popular material as a driving force, there is no attractiveness for independent video artists either. I use PeerTube to host some of my videos, and there is a bit of attention from within the platform for them - but there ain't enough activity and especially far too few others to establish anything like a community.

I believe video collectives using PeerTube (or similar technology) are a much more promising attempt - I watched KanalB back in the days, it is still somewhat active; they made/make political videos, but I believe this could work out for artists as well.

Ya I agree, idk the issue for me is activity. The reason WeVidi at least SEEMS better than things like Vidlii or Bitview (RIP Bitview btw lol) but I agree with you in that youtube clones seem to not be very well

The issue with me is im extremely particular about things with social sites, mainly if and what their niche is and how they are layed out. I like youtube clones cuz they look like old youtube and I like that, but i ESPECIALLY like the WeVidi layout. Ive checked out peertube a bit but my issue is that its not very... chill. Like, one reason I like the small youtube clone sites is cuz they are very chill and usually not very serious. Like i can post random cat vids or whatever and there is no pressure. most peertube instances ive seen are more youtube akin leaning where all the content is high-quality vids or is for a specific niche. (also ngl i dont looooove the layout and styling of most peertubes ive seen)

Like this is actually the main reason i dont post on youtube. Like dont get me wrong, it's definitely also youtube being greedy google ai slop these days with a dumbass algorithm and ads, but its also that youtube is not chill. Almost everyone on youtube is doing it for money and views. Im looking for a video sharing site that isnt about money or following but just absolutely chill video posting.

idk tbh at this point (since its been a while lol) Im just posting my videos on the internet archive and then embedding them in my site. Like, it works and its not like I have to worry about anything on there. but idk if you have any suggestions im definetly open

First of all it would be awesome if you made amvs again and I want to see if you do. Second, i agree. Like Idk, tbh i have unconsciously (like as in just naturally not by choice) not been watching youtube videos for the past few months. Like I do SOMETIMES but at this point the algorithm is just flooded with all the same stuff and brainrot. Like I wanna go on a platform like youtube and watch some random ass video some random person posted of their dog being silly or something cuz they wanted to not cuz of money or views. I just wanna have a chronological feed of videos and categories instead of the algorithm
