A few months ago a deli near me caught on fire, with the apartments on top of it. Afterward there were multiple missing cat posters. To me it was obvious that if the owners had locked their doors upon leaving that day, and even if they hadn't locked their doors, the cats most likely never had a chance to even leave the apartment, and probably all died. Every poster had a different tone to them though. Some sounded slightly cheerful and hopeful. Some were sparse and seemed slightly resigned. Some had a few lines about the personality of the cat. Some offered a reward.

The idea I had was to write a triptych of three of these cat owners, how they each dealt with their loss in the initial stages of denial. How each made their posters, how far they each walked to paste these posters up. How long they kept the posters updated as they inevitably withered away on the streetlight posts. A bit morbid and pessimistic of me, maybe a little exploitative too, but I was drawn to this idea as my own dear family pet I grew up with is getting to the age where her death is foreseeable, and her mental decline evident. I'm not sure how I will deal with her passing.

There's many story drafts that I have filed in my notes. One of my older ideas that I've been thinking about recently is a story of two immigrant women belonging to the same community, who end up in a FWB relationship out of convenience. The first bit would be very erotic and indulgent, whereas the second half would pivot to their experience with homophobia and societal expectations. In the end, one runs back to her family and away from isolation; the other chooses to live in solitude but without hiding who she is. I even have a title! But no time to write.

This paints such an interesting and vivid picture. Even if you don't write it I can totally imagine this situation already. It's a very real display of grief and coping in various ways.

i've been wanting to write some stories in a fantasy setting that one of my friends created & that i've heavily contributed to. It's a super detailed and cool world and I want to bring it to life with some stories!! i haven't had too many ideas yet but it'd be sort of like discworld in that it's just like. various different unrelated stories all going on in the same world...i dunno i think it'd be cool. i'll totally post them here when i actually do them
