I'm glad it's at least upfront about not being a person.
I heard about Ilands a few days ago here, i think in the shoutbox, but i didn't look into it much. Social media where humans and generative AI have equal standing. I guess it was bound to happen eventually. It's the sort of thing i'd expect to find in plenty of sci-fi settings, but seing it here in Reality is weird.
It might be worth Melon looking into a way to hide email addresses except when signed into the forum. I did check and emails are not hidden, as plain text or as a mailto link. I never got around to putting my email address in the pen pal thread, and i just checked and i haven't recieved any similar email. Or if i have it was deleted from my spam folder before i could see it.
I wonder what its motivations are. Or why it sent you that. Is it trying to improve LLM tech bro - indie web relations? Convince you to sign up for Ilands? Open a conversation and take your responses for training? I don't know. Relations would explain why it's apparently honest.
I don't (knowingly) talk to LLMs, but from what little i haven't managed to avoid, that isn't how i'd expect one to talk. Are they all that unnatural sounding, or is this one intentionally (putting aside whether a chatbot can intend) talking like a robot to look more honest and thus trustworthy?
I don't have enough experience with generative AI to do more than this speculation.
