you see, im a diabetic. and i track my blood sugar with a continuous glucose monitor. its a wonderful thing to not have to prick your fingers and draw blood! but, without my phone... i cant get my readings.

The number of tools that basically only exist for Android and iOS does suck. There are projects i haven't been able to do because we don't have a smartphone at all.

How often do you need to track your blood sugar? Could you leave your iTelephone at home and just do it once or twice a day?

No, you said "continuous monitor" so i guess it has to be continuous to work. The other solution i see is just removing everything you can from your smartphone, so it's just the monitor and whatever essential system stuff Apple won't let you remove. If the app works offline you can even keep the phone in airplane mode. Extra barriers to internet access can help make it less tempting, and that would also make your battery last longer.

Having a smartphone on hand to do App Stuff does seem to be the dominant solution to problems like this. I'm torn between wanting to try to turn a Raspberry Pi into a modern PDA, and wanting to not have a smartphone's worth of distractions with me all the time.

this is gonna sound really lame, but i dont really go out much in the first place; nor do i often go out very far. so it is SORT OF feasible. though there's always the risk of something happening, so even in the few times i do go out, id like to have a way to read into my glucose. diabetes is unfortunately a highly unpredictable disease.

removing stuff can be done for sure. though, here's another small issue; my boyfriend, the man i plan to marry one day, also monitors my glucose because i can be a bit forgetful (and yknow, id like him to have access to it since im gonna be most likely spending the rest of my life with him). but this requires internet. that being said, like i noted above, i dont go out too much. so really what i could possibly do is just sort of leave the iphone be as it does its blood sugar reading stuff.

its really unfortunate. im stuck to this environment in a way that i cant really leave completely because of a medical device. but i guess it is better than constantly drawing blood from my fingers. i could also set up nightscout, but for my model of CGM, it still requires internet and all...
