this week's the Sonic Amateur Games Expo - SAGE for short-, a yearly event in which devs from all over get together in releasing a bunch of demos for their fangames and indie games - not just Sonic stuff although it's most of what is in there. -

- you can find the game showcase here, not every game is shown but its still a lot! -

the event actually started yesterday, but i havent been able to check in until recently, and this year is rather huge in terms of games. maybe there's some cool stuff out there?

haven't played many myself, but if I was to give some recommendations i'd go with...

  • Mega Man: Wily Tower NES
  • Kira-Kira Catgirl Rampage
  • Blade Man's Less Successful Business Ventures - kind of an epilepsy warning for this one -
  • Kirby: Soft & Wet
  • Prototype N

there's a lot out of this list that look interesting to me as well, i'm even wanting to write my thoughts on the games i play over on the HATsite. check it out, you may find something interesting.

- also even if the event is over, the page will still be around until next year, just keeping that in mind just in case any of this event stuff can give y'all fomo :p -

I downloaded a bunch of stuff and plan on playing through a lot of it this weekend, but I will say there's way more original games and Sonic fan games this year.  Not that's a bad thing!  I even saw an RPG that I know used to be a Sonic RPG.  I just wonder when that shift happened, I haven't followed SAGE as much as I used to but I've felt an itch to get back into it.  There's some sick looking stuff this year.

This year's SAGE was great!! Lots of really cool projects. Some of my favorites:

Sonic Stuff:
-Project Reignited: A ground up rebuild of Sonic and the Secrets made for PC. Removed some wonky Wii specific stuff and makes the game more playable in general.

-Sonic 1996: A Sega Saturn style 3D platformer type game with cool retro low poly graphics

-Sonic 32x: A Genesis/32x style remake of Sonic 1 for Game Gear/Master System

-Sonic Tameshi: A fully complete Sonic CD style game with cool vibes and good gameplay

-Sonic Advance Revamped: A quick little demo of a deluxe version of Sonic Advance with new graphics and gameplay

Non Sonic Stuff:
-Galactic Pac-Man Brothers: Pac-Man... but also Galaga! Eat the dots as Pac-Man to fuel your ship, then switch to shoote-em-up mode to take out the aliens.

-Ball Game: Fun, physics based golf style adventure game

-Down South: Crazy looking platformer. Didn't get too much into this one but the graphics and gameplay are great.

-Vertical Collapse: A cool black-and-white digital pinball game... Okay, this is the game my dev team submitted for this year's SAGE. We've been working on it for years and have submitted it before, but this time it's actually complete and you can buy it!!

Fun fact: I actually submitted a game to SAGE around the year 2000 when I was 11 or 12. I built a Sonic vs Megaman in Mugen. It was the only Sonic fighting game that year! It's incredible, SAGE was something i looked forward to when I was a kid in middle school and it's still trucking.
