Ideal night...
From 8:30PM-3AM, I have zero responsibility. Nothing to
have to wake up to. It's either spring and there is heavy rain. It could be winter, maybe December. January and February are too early into the year, and December is in the holiday season, so I get to kick-back and feel like all the work I've achieved can be put to rest.
If it's winter it's snowing. A lot, and I mean a lot of snow. I won't play in it, but I'll onlook and admire its simple beauty.
I'm in a room built for one. My bedside is by the window, and its slightly open. If rain seeps in past the borders, or it gets too cold I can close the window, but I know I'll re-open it.
Ahead of me is my TV. It sits on a dark shelf, my Kamen Rider figures are scattered about the room. My collection of manga, and assorted non-fiction books I haven't had the spirit to finish are sleeping soundly on the shelf.
From 8:30-11:30, I'm playing the PlayStation 2. If I'm playing something like Silent Hill 3, or an RPG, I'll hand out my undivided attention to the game and soak in its serene loneliness. If I'm hauling through a licensed game, I'll pull up a YouTube video about a similar topic. Maybe it's something like lost media, could be a top 10 cartoon review from years ago that I probably watched as a teenager. It's chill, like watching a late-night talk show.
From 12-3, I'll pull up my Google Docs and write. Either some original work, but probably my Fanfiction work; it brings a profound joy out of me. Still listening to YouTube at this point, but occasionally dipping into silence when I'm in the zone. By the time of 2, I know I've been up late and I get ready for bed.
YouTube, with my laptop facing outwards away from me. I like the bit of light, but I can't sleep in it. Falling asleep to beta Minecraft playthroughs, or another lost media search (again, one I've seen a 100 times).
On nights where I'm most productive, I'll crack open a book and read for a while under dim light. Not great for my eyes, that's for sure, but it makes me happy.
A night that makes me happy. Warm, cozy and knowing that the rest of the world can go on, but I can take a step back. At least, while the stars are out.
