i don’t remember what my first PFP was but it was probably something on tranformice for the cafe mini forum they have there. the earliest i can remember i think was meta knight from kirby.

Bringing this topic back because I discovered... the Melonland Forums have default profile pictures! 

To find them, go to your Profile -> My Details -> from the four options shown, Choose avatar from gallery

From there you'll get access to... 65x65 images of actors and musicians! Here's a few of my personal picks 

Now, as much of a fan of Avril Lavigne I am, I don't think she looks her best on this picture... 



But if you put together Limp Bizkit and Bon Jovi they look like they accidentally knocked over the stagelights and are trying their best to cover it up.



Finally, have Freddy Mercury in a funny close-up because I am easily amused like that

I mostly use either the most recent drawing I've done or this backup I keep in a seperate folder

Tho for this forum, usenet, and discord, I do use ones I drew specifically for those, being my main oc sappy

edit: my first ever profile pic i remember was an edited version of the hurt squirtle sprite from PMD Blue, with a beanie and candy cane antlers from amongus edited on top.

When I was a teenager, the profile pictures I chose were art of characters from my favorite anime.

When I got older, my profile pictures became photos of food or animals sourced from Unsplash.

Nowadays, however, I use the picture of myself that I commissioned from an artist friend, Krougen. I use it everywhere, except Discord (which uses my boyfriend's art).

usually my profile pics are different on every platform, like here it's "Miku" from Lucky Star's OVA, that specific expression, the OVA in general is a bit of a gold mine for profile pics but this was my favourite, lol

mine are usually Vocaloids, Touhou screenshots (or photos from manga), or a character from Lucky Star. :P
mostly because it depends on how i am and how i see a platform.

As far as the typical consensus goes, most of the profile pictures I end up using are just either something I really like (fictional characters, Pokemon, actors/musicians) or something I made in Picrew/flash games. Very rare instances where I used something I drew myself because I'm still very antsy to the idea of sharing my works online - even in a little thumbnail image...

Most of my early choices were that of Kingdom Hearts and Gir from Invader Zim. Granted, I was a late middle school into high school student when I started Facebook during its hayday of being decent. It later went to something like using Link from the Legend of Zelda - mainly a lot of Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask iterations. Now though, I do jump between that and Lucario from Pokemon even though I recall a bit of social media trolling from that in a group I've long since then left.

Lately though, I've been itching to try using TCoVT in my pfp just by taking a photograph of the book cover with a Lucario kutari cutie plush. Still do so off and on, but it took a step back and I'm back to just using gaming franchises I enjoy.

I just made ANSI of a chip in a PCB with my username in it (since the username comes from a famous chip).
Only exception is on my forum thingy where it's just "AY" in green on a black background to fit in with the default color theme in the site, which imitates a greenscreen terminal. Everywhere else, the chip is my avatar.

When I was young, my avatars were all just pictures of characters I liked! Nowadays, it's always art I've drawn. Sometime's I'll do an illustration of myself in the style of whatever is my hyperfixation at the moment and use that. As mentioned earlier in the thread, the way that avatars are how people imagine you look on the internet means I can use it to share both my true physical self but also a more self-realized, fun version of me.

My current one is me cosplaying as Siffrin from In Stars And Time. Play it! If you want. it's on steam.
