yeah! been wanting to make a little something regarding music and videos on YouTube (also Flash and etc) too.
it's historically been proven that things don't last forever online.Flipnote Hatena is gone, and supposedly over two thirds of flipnotes were lost despite the panic rush to archive them, heaps of Flash videos are lost (even though there's a massive archival effort, it's still easily possible for many to have been lost to time), heaps of things on Nico Nico Douga and various others are gone, etc.
only ends up usually being well-known things - which is why say World is Mine has stuck around, but a more obscure Vocaloid track would've been forgotten like it never existed.
i've always wanted to know
when will YouTube finally shut down? i mean, social media is bleeding users at this point and a good chunk are just AI bots now, so what?
especially with Flash and Flipnote gone, YouTube's being filled with mostly corporate things, at least to me right? well it's more a pattern especially within the mainstream rather than the entirety of it.
that being said though...
indie/non-mainstream things are the most vulnerable to being wiped from the internet.i've already said this with Flash videos and Flipnote, but YouTube too.
heaps of stupid, funny, whatever videos on YouTube are being lost, while most mainstream videos are very polished and mainstream.
mainstream things often have a massive audience that backs it up, and massive archival efforts are put in place - and sometimes the companies themselves may exploit their own older things for "nostalgia."
a lot of UTAU voicebanks are probably lost, while ones like Kasane Teto are obviously still in existence, is Ritsu or Yokune Ruko or Momone Momo still in existence? maybe somewhere, but what about all the hundreds of others?
etc. those aren't videos or music necessarily, they're voicebanks for UTAU, but still. they're all indie, while VOCALOID was corporate, but despite VOCALOID being more corporate, some voicebanks are almost lost (like SeeU)
please archive things now!things aren't gonna last forever, and as Melooon said, YouTube isn't forever and will someday be discontinued.
i made this on a single cup of coffee and an Animal Crossing run so bear with me if this is pretty bad
