Hi everyone! My username is akhenaton, and I'm a progr — oh, what's this? A questionnaire for me to answer! How kind! Well here goes

What is your favourite HTML tag?
I do very much appreciate the pair of <details> and <summary>. I like when HTML tags actually pull their weight and do some of the work for me.

What are some books that you've been reading in rotation?
  • Exordia - Seth Dickinson. Trippy sci-fi book with good amounts of maths and physics (guaranteed to make you look at pink noise in a different way) but too much military shooty-shoots and perspective shifting.
  • Le Comte de Monte-Cristo Tome 1 - Alexandre Dumas. I've been reading this since I kept seeing people rave about it but it is a lil slower than I'd like. If you've finished it, please tell me if the payoff is worth it?
  • Comparative Tort Law - Thomas Kadner Graziano. Writing's a bit dry but loving the fact that it includes material in all kinds of languages (Norwegian, Finnish, German, to list a few) and its translation so that I can study torts AND all the languages at the same time.

What are some things you've web-crafted?
  • one day I asked myself “what would happen if I go against the dominant trend of high X-height?” and thus was born my cute monospace font called Lotion font.nina.coffee
  • another day we (me & @pyrrhic7) asked ourselves “what would happen if cats were pastries?” and then we started to make this fantasy baking cat simulation browser game pastrycats.com (still very much in development lol)
  • yet another day I asked myself “what if birds were to practise law?”, well nothing is born yet, not even a landing page (still heavily prototyping), but at least I purchased a cute domain name birds.attorney (there's nothing yet)

Anyway, I'm super excited to join this community because this forum reminds me of the old web I used to love when I was a child :) I've already scouted out several threads that I'm gonna reply to!

Hey! I'm Violet, or you can refer to me as pyrrhic7 (I like summoning a new username for every occasion!).

My stubborn passion is visual art: digital painting, learning concept art, the rare watercolor field trip or oil on gessoed cardboard. I've been lax on uploading work from the last three years, so no portfolio to share quite yet. I also have a deep love of words and crunchy prose! When I have the time to indulge, I add a paragraph to my wispy stack of unpublished speculative short stories (more abstract than decipherable).

I began my internet life on book fan forums & roleplay boards (so it's cozy to return to forum life :seal:), and virtual pet sites (Neopets, Furry Paws...)—my first foray into gaming! I've since carried an itch to create my own virtual pet site; a decade-plus of false-starts later, @akhenaton (who finished her intro before me :O ) and I have persisted with a 2-years-in-development fantastical cat bakery sim, PastryCats! All-around interested in gamedev/design chatter :)

My first hobby, reading, hit its snags in adulthood, so now I maintain a fleet of partially-read books; the latest in rotation—in physical and e-book format—To the Lighthouse, You Dreamed of Empires, Invisible Cities, The Witch Elm... Besides books and sim games, I relax by mulling over a puzzle game (gradually picking away at 100%ing Opus Magnum).

Feeling giddy to be in an old web corner again; can't wait to chatter with other creatives! :ozwomp: Conversely, I'm somewhat shy, but I'll try :)

Hello. I discovered MelonLand from randomly browsing through indie websites. My main project is a hypertext webcomic and I really enjoy how I can use the medium of the website itself to add more interactivity and uniqueness for its story. I usually write about niche things pertaining to my experiences, like schizospectral disorders (especially schizoid/schizotypal), lovelessness, non-humanity and all such other obscure matters.  :unite:

Besides writing and drawing comics, I dabble in whatever strikes my fancy (usually doll-making, textiles/sewing, and a bit of animating and music-making). On top of the webcomic, my website has its own BBS called the Bakery and adding new little features for it here and there has been the highlight of my past few months. Feel free to drop by it or to send me an e-mail, it is nice to meet new people.

My projects:

Bread, and all variations of the aforementioned - a hypertext multimedia webcomic series about a sentient Doll and the End of the World
Daydream Attorney - a coagulation of spectres dedicated to turning schizotypy into the world's first viral mind disease
