So without spoiling anything, I want to make a section of my website where there are links to embeded games.. similar to flash game websites I grew up enjoying. However, I cant seem to find any good place to find embeded games, or ones that arent like schlock that get churned out of a content mill.

I've seen some websites implement a "games" page before, so I was wondering if maybe anyone here had any experience with this?

do you mean you want games that you can embed on your site or do you just want links to places that have browser games? newgrounds and itch have heaps of browser games, and flashpoint archive is a pretty big archive of old flash games if you're looking for old flash games. a lot of virtual pet sites have browser games - neopets, subeta, flight rising, and xanje, for example.

Yes, exactly! Im looking for stuff I can embed on a webpage and mimic sites such as Armorgames, Kongregate, Silvergames.com, etc. etc. I want to have a sort of games section where I can embed them, just for the fun of it :3

Can those websites give me embeded codes for the games..?

This got me curious on how Web game hosts do it!

I want to preface this by saying that before you embed someone else's game onto your site, then unless the games are out of development/abandonware (like, if they're not Flash games  :eyes: ), you should probably contact the creator to let them know! So often, people developing browser games will share that game in a way to where it's connected to that person's name & other works, like on their Newgrounds or Itch account.

:pc:  Now, from what I can tell, it looks like a standard way to embed a browser game is to put the game in an iframe containing a page that has all the game elements in it. The stuff that's actually in the iframe page will vary. Sometimes, it's a <canvas> element with a big long script that loads the assets & runs the game, but it might also be a React app or a Ruffle player, which are a couple of other JavaScript tools that can move things around in an iframe to make a game work. A lot of the time, it's not even intended for you to embed by hand!

The game code that goes into the iframe will so often be generated by some sort of framework or tool like under Node.js Package Manager. However, the Flash-games player Ruffle has "self-hosted" versions on its downloads page to embed Flash games by just following the "README" instructions that come with the .zip download. Putting a Ruffle game onto an iframe page on your site can be super simple, but it does require a reference to the .swf containing the Flash game. Once you have that, you should be set to host some classic Flash games on your site!  :dive:

Oh WOW this is super helpful!! I'd been looking for so long on how to do alot of this.. and you've knocked it out of the park with! I went onto some websites that had embeded codes for some games they were hosting, and I went with the few I could find from those websites, but I will certainly look into Ruffle and how to use it onto my website!

I quickly read through this thread so apologies if I repeat anyone too much!

I used to embed games from Addicting Games, Kongregate, Armor Games, etc. when I was younger onto a weebly site so I could access them on a School Computer.

You should be able to do the same as long as the games are hosted anywhere. I did see another person mention the Ruffle plugin - This will more than likely be needed for Flash games.

Also; there are many HTML5 games out there now that will run natively. They may not be what you're looking for, but no plugin required. I am planning on creating some and adding them to my site... (one day)
