Inspired by (a) the share your desk & desktop threads, (b) the discussion in the shoutbox about how many books people own, and (c) the simple joy of going over to a friend's house and perusing their bookshelves - I think there's something really lovely and casually intimate about it. I'd also love to know how people organise their books! Alphabetically (and if so, by title or author)? By colour? Are you one of those unhinged people who have the spines against the wall?

Here's mine! The living room shelves:

There's also a shelf beneath, but that one holds art supplies and notebooks. As you can see, this is also where the DVDs and CDs live. The vertical stack is library books. Other than that, there's no real organising principle beyond the fact that the lower shelf gets all the books that are too tall for the upper shelf.

The shelves in the side of my desk (and the stack of books on top of them):

These were alphabetised by author surname at one point, but I've had to do so much book tetris that that's gone out the window. These are also mostly organised by 'which books will physically fit where'. The stack on the desk is general overflow - all of those are on the newer side, or are ones I've been looking at recently. And yes, I do need another set of shelves. :drat:

The prince chose to sleep on, and the princess chose to wake up. At the top of that tall tower, the princess bid farewell to the prince. No—she wasn’t the princess any longer. She quit being a “person (thing) ruled by someone”. The victory bells rang, but there was no “tower (rule)” beyond them now. She’d learned where freedom lay. [...]

The world (the stage) is free and wide.
