I think it might be a good idea to clarify what a blinkie is to start with  :tongue: You can search for them on this forum and find lots of topic examples;

The main thing I'd point out is that while there is no rule; 88x31 buttons/badges are almost never called blinkies. Usually the term blinkie refers to a wider thinner badge (150x20px apparently) that has blinking pixels around its edge; like the ones here!

https://blinkies.cafe/b/display/0270-owmybones.gif

My guess is that this format of image was originally inspired by mid century theater signs like this one:
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b6/3a/c5/b63ac5ba8249e608f6ac95b417676f36.jpg

So as always my recommendation when replicating media is to study the media, but also study its sources and history of where it evolved from; then you can build on the same idea as the original media, rather than just imitating it  :wizard:

EDIT:
Also also, if you're curious about the origin of 88x31 badges too; those are most lightly inspired by American mall signs:
https://c8.alamy.com/comp/DA446T/kissimmee-floridaorlando-american-plazastrip-mall-signbusinessesdistrictvisitors-DA446T.jpg

I think the interesting thing about both examples is that it really shows how early web culture evolved out of middle class American suburban culture ~ that's a really big subject in itself and there's a lot of room to explore it!  :omg:

Same as you study anything! You ask questions and then you find answers and you keep doing that until you’re satisfied :tongue: in this case you could examine existing blinkies, examine theatre signs; find out who made the first blinkie, who made the first theatre signs; what’s the history of signage etc etc! Anything that catches your interest ~ you did ask the question, so something about it must be interesting to you; there is no expert on this subject so you could become the expert if you wanted  :cheerR:

i'm not really sure what you mean by "authentic" in the context of a button or a blinkie! could you elaborate a bit? is there a particular time period you want to emulate or something like that?
