My ShouJosei WebRing (which I'm updating soon  ) is here! It's a WebRing for fans of Japanese media aimed at girls/women (anyone 18+ can join though)!

Is yuri counted here as female-oriented? My taste is good, I swear - I have a good nose for sniffing out stuff that panders to straight guys.

Anywho, this is a really cute ring. The you paddle icons are very funny.

nana and utena are both excellent! some of my favorite series of all time!!
nana is sadly forever incomplete, due to the mangaka ai yazawa's health issues - but her previous work, paradise kiss, is complete and has both a manga and an anime! it's very good as well (i do like nana better to be honest)

for getting into shoujo generally, i'd recommend reading fruits basket as a starting point! it's very good, and has a lot of Shoujo Stuff all jampacked in there so it's great for getting a general introduction to a lot of the tropes and story beats common in shoujo on the romance/school life/friendship/light-fantasy side.
i haven't watched the new anime, but i think i've heard it's good? the old anime was made before the manga ended so it misses about half of the story, but the newer one adapts the whole thing.
for getting into magical girl stuff, sailor moon is great. the old anime and the manga are quite different but both very enjoyable and iconic; the anime is quite long, though, so the manga might be better if you're not sure what you're interested in.
cardcaptor sakura is also fun, and additionally is a great CLAMP introduction!
princess tutu is also excellent - and a shorter, more self-contained series. it's technically magical girl as well, although i wouldn't say it's especially representative of the genre...
comedy-wise, ouran high school host club is a big one - i prefer the anime as i like the story best as a comedy and the manga turns into a very sincere romance.

if you're interested in a shoujo-josei-oriented take on something that's more usually shounen, vision of escaflowne is a giant robot fantasy isekai series and it's excellent!

these are all kind of Old, so i'll add that a really nice recent pick is the skip & loafer anime! very cute slice of life romcom anime, all the tooth-rotting adorable school life you could possibly desire hahaha.

oh! i think showa genroku rakugo shinjuu is technically josei! i can't pass up an opportunity to recommend that! it's really really really good!!

those are my general recommendations! happy to dump more on you when you have a better sense of what kind of stuff you enjoy or are interested in!

100% THIS is a GREAT list! To add on, I loved the Fruits Basket remake anime; I would recommend it to anyone new to the series! The animation is beautiful and adapts the whole manga!! But I also love the 2003 anime!
 
Some other random recs depending on your tastes... also keep in mind that a lot of Josei media will be otome or BL-related :

Also these aren't (technically in some cases) Shoujo / Josei but have a large female fanbase... also fun things I recommend that give off the ~vibes~ you might be looking for! Anyone can enjoy anything they want though, and I absolutely love lots of things aimed at men (like Love Live! or Yuru Camp)!

Some GL is aimed at a female audience, but a lot of it is aimed at straight men similar to how BL is. I also like yuri and enjoy stuff like Asagao to Kase-san.
