I have looked on the forum everywhere for this type of topic. Nothing came up, so that means I am here to claim this topic. So, what are you choosing, Marvel, or DC? I pick Marvel. I just think it’s much more interesting and has much more interesting stuff (yeah, I didn’t really think that through very well 💀). If it’s Marvel, or if it’s DC, tell me your pick, and tell me why it’s either Marvel or DC. 😏

You clearly didn't watch Smallville, so I'll take the liberty to heavily recommend it. I think that show it's peak DC in terms of story quality and watchability(basically the quality of not becoming boring at all after a few seasons). In Smallville, the story is completely different from any typical superhero narrative that these universes tend to have. It's an amazingly crafted show, starting from character devlopment to their complex relationships, subtleties, moral struggles, you can relate to all of them. It has its own spark and it shows a very humane version of Superman that we'll never see anywhere else or in any other superhero. The actors chosen for each role are exactly how you’d imagine them. They introduced the powers and the "superhero" elements at a very incipient point in the DC universe, basically before they got contoured and became the classics of DC that everyone know. I'm more than impressed by the direction the shows went for and it's one of my all time favorites. Many others were great, but none came closer to this one for me.

From Marvel, I liked Loki a lot, it was again a show that wasn't focused on super powers that much and it was more about character exploration with an interesting driving plot at its core. WandaVision and Moon Knight also moved beyond traditional superhero action flicks to something more complex and I also consider them great, but DC touched more profound grounds from what I saw. You can find in both great stories and ideas depending on your preferences, but I just tend to resonate more with the vibe that DC is inspiring me.

Honestly the stories/shows that i've seen come out of dc have far exceeded marvel (for me) and i'd say i like DC a lot more then i like marvel. Characters like batman, nightwing, superman, etc just work for me way better then anything I've seen out of marvel to be perfectly honest. :skull:

i always enjoyed marvel stuff when i was younger but now, at least at the moment i feel like DC is releasing better video content then marvel is (though i am bias to animated stuff so theres that too). MAWS and Batman Caped Crusader have been some of my favorite shows of the year and im more excited to see more outta them then i am to see stuff outta marvel at the moment. though if there is some marvel content you think i may like which could help change my mind then let me know :mark:

I am finally almost at the end of the first Avengers movie. The fact that it took me my whole life to finally watch it is wild 💀

You’re not incorrect. The shows are quite good in my opinion. That’s like the only one good thing I like about DC, their shows.

This thread is very adaptions-centric, but just to throw my hat in the ring as a comics reader, I prefer more self-contained stories set in the wider universe rather than a story that relies on knowledge of the universe, and I feel like there's more stand-alone stories in DC comics than Marvel. People seem really invested in the teams at Marvel and while I like a superhero team, I prefer other characters to guest star in what is otherwise a solo series. Marvel also has a significantly worse problem with corporate synergy and trying to change the comics to reflect the films rather than making films that reflect the comics, which is something I find incredibly annoying. When I do read Marvel, I tend to stick to things that pre-date the MCU or characters who haven't been introduced in the films yet.

Granted, I read mostly older stuff at DC, too, but I've realized I just really like comics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. My favorite currently is Green Arrow, and I'm reading the series by Mike Grell from the 80s. The New Teen Titans by Wolfman and Perez is also great.

I grew up on DC animated shows/movies and the DCAU (Teen Titans, Young Justice, Batman Beyond, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited and reruns of BTAS) so I'm very biased in my preference of DC over Marvel :P

DC pretty consistently clears Marvel when it comes to the shows imo. And with James Gunn taking over the reins for the DCU we're gonna be eating soooo good these next couple years. I enjoyed Creature Commandos so much and I'm really looking forward to the next season of it, My Adventures With Superman and the upcoming Dick grayson/Jason Todd movie.

Personally I find the characters and stories more intriguing. Especially in the case of the batfam/batverse. I eat up stuff like The Wayne Family Adventures and Gotham Knights...anything that has the batfam interacting and taking a lead role (and includes my fave guy, Jason Todd :loved: )

Marvel mostly because I'm a comic-book reader and I got hooked on Spider-Man somewhere in the late 90s, a little bit after the clone saga. I hate Batman because it's the exact idea of a Gary Stu I have in my mind. Rich, almost toe-to(toe with some super vilains. He always has a plan for everything, knows everyone. The only DC characters I really enjoy are The Flash and Aquaman. Haven't seen any DC movie and only watched season 1 of The Flash. I've read a lot of "New 52" comics.

Also Marvel has symbiotes and I'm all about those sticky aliens  :4u:

I've read a lot of "New 52" comics.

New 52 isn't particularly well-regarded by most people, which is part of why I stick to older comics. If you haven't read Mark Waid's Flash run from the 90's, that might be something to look at, since you said you like the Flash? It's Wally West as the Flash, not Barry, and this is the run that really defines Wally as a character. I'm about a quarter of the way through it (Waid writes the series for basically the whole decade, so it's a lot) and have really enjoyed it so far.

I don't typically care for Batman either and only read Gotham related comics for the Robins and Batgirls, honestly.

I like the New 52 to be honest. I've read "Aquaman", "Green Lantern", "Green Lantern Corps", "Red Lanterns", "The Flash" and "Wonder Woman". I'm bizarrely intrigued by Red Lanterns, I find it bad but yet intriguing and I often come back to re-read some parts or bits. Green Lantern + Green Lantern Corps were average to me.

"Flash" and "Wonder Woman" were the ones that pleased me the most. I loved the art styles of both series. Aquaman was nice but not enough to keep me hooked like WW or The Flash. I've sold everything except Flash because I really enjoy this series. The Waid run is on my "want to read" list yes, I've heard a lot of good things about it.
