how did you come up with your online alias?

Hello! I'm currently trying to come up with an alias i can use online (instead of just using my irl nickname) and i was wondering how the people here came up with theirs/any stories they have about theirs.

I'd also like suggestions on how to come up with one that i'd actually like! i used to use one but i came up with it when i was like 10 and i don't really like it all that much anymore , and its too attached to my irl life now anyway.

if anyone had any stories or suggestions please let me know! i'd really appriciate it!

I actually am just as curious. In my case I just went with a cringy username and used it nearly everywhere-- there's nothing mysterious about the things I show or say. Being careful about what I post is not something that's ever crossed my mind, and I'm curious to hear about the people who have built a deliberate persona. What drove/drives you to do that? Does it come easy to you or does it require significant planning and effort?

as I've been getting into more professional and educated programs i start to feel like i'm quite old because i find myself not caring when people online call me by my real name (partially because my real name is probably just as absurd) instead. but there's still a pretty large margin of people i know online who still call me by some form of alias.

feli is pretty straightforward, and i honestly didn't expect it to become an alias since it was just my username since i first started using the internet as a kid. people tend to confuse the username bugfeli as in feli (a name) and bug. but it's actually a shortened / semi-translated version of my original username bichosfelices (happy bugs in spanish since i was quite young coming up with it)

when online spaces started picking up bichos as a vulgar word (very close to a different word in english) i changed it to bugsfelices.but because it contains english and spanish words felices started being read as lice, which was a little annoying. it eventually ended up just being bugfeliz (plural to singular now) and dropping the z we end up with bugfeli! so some people still call me feliz or feli even though i prefer to be called my actual name if we're close or working with each other.

Rosaria Delacroix is a pen name- and it's a bit of a tongue in cheek nod to the fact that a lot of my previous erotic written works have been heretical in nature: gay vampires, mobsters making a religion out of their love, that sort of thing. I also plan on circling around to writing more in a similar vein, but in a longer format, rather than the bite sized pieces I've previously released under a different handle.

I went for meaning, first- and then sifted through to find some names that fit the general theme that I thought read pretty, that I could see on the cover of something easily- and it had to be something I could say aloud without stumbling over my words.

Rosaria has a couple of translations, (it can come from a phrase that translates to 'Our Lady of Roses', or else a Latin term that means 'wreath of roses'), and Delacroix means 'of the cross,' and I found it amusing to have a pen name dripping in religious reference while writing the sort of sensual, heretical gothic stuff I normally dive into. Plus, Rosaria is long enough to have nicknames- (Rose, Rosie) and I love those.

Very similar criteria for my actual chosen name, which my loved ones know me by.

I have two handles, for this current one I wanted it to be something related to magic and mysticism, but also contain some nod to technology since I'm also a computer nerd. 

I brainstormed names and saw if they were available on neocities, this one was and it sounds pretty cool

As for my other handle, it's simply the first 3 letters of my first name, and the first 3 of my last name

My current alias is more recent as I only had it for close to a year at this point, but I don't see myself ever changing this alias ever as I really love it. As for where I got it well it all started when I was on roblox one day browsing the catalog when I wanted to create an avatar since I was still just using a bunch of free stuff. I was just browsing around until I gotten an idea for one a TV headed knight I got the items, put them one, and I fell in love with the character I saved him and called him Videoknight and decided to shorten it to Vidknight.

I saw that name and I thought to myself how great of an alias that would be. Push come to shove and I became Vidknight and 1 year later I still love Vidknight as much as I did when I first created it. Sadly the original TV headed knight character kind of fizzled out since I wasn't really interested in him anymore, but it did lead to my current sona which is my PFP so it's not all too bad.

I chose this username back when I was in Drawception because I was into BFDI at the time, but I also know that 420 is a funny nuimber, so this is supposed to be a funny username I came up with.

I'm currently named after a character one of my artist friends created. I liked the vibe. (I am not a real doctor.)

It felt important at this stage of my life/career to break away from - and get some anonymity from - the online handle I used for years, which was just my first and middle name. I don't mind being a recognizable person under this name; I just don't want anyone to be able to match it to my driver's license or whatever.

I've had several screennames in my life. Usually they were something I thought was cute at the time or that was an in joke between me and my friends. The first screen name I ever had was "lilshrimp," back in the mid 90s, lol.

my name comes from my fursona...but I use a more interesting one on other sites. I don't want to divulge it because it keeps me safe but I took a saying that really helped me during difficult times and made it into a user :3

like don't count your eggs before they hatch --> hatched-eggs. it gives me a feeling of power over my circumstances!

[Mañana]

I picked Mañana because of two reasons: for one, it is the name of a character in the game Disco Elysium, and I thought he was pretty badass.
For two, Mañana is an interesting word when translated from Spanish to English, because while it does literally mean "tomorrow," it also kind of means "the day after tomorrow" in the sense that it's uncertain (like if you ask the mechanic when your car will be fixed, and they reply "mañana," the car won't be getting done for a week at least ). That said, I think postmodernism comes from meaningful engagement with aesthetics and technology (which, actually, I think is the beauty of neocities + this here melonland forum and its posters), and I think saying when that postmodern understanding comes is "mañana," which is to say, probably not anytime soon, but as [internet] poets, we can run after the horizon of inexhaustibility.

I LOVE DISCO ELYSIUM!! I HAVENT FINISHED IT YET THOUGH...
I REMEMBER MANANA... but unfortunately i don't think our interactions in game ended very well....
It's a cool idea for a screenname though!
