Update

Hello I have a small update today that u coders will enjoy! The everyone site now has a very basic API!

You can call ?api=X&target=Y on all everyone site pages.

Currentlyit supports 3 api calls: (Everything returns JSON data)

• texts - returns an array of text on the page
• links - returns the text and urls of links
• images - returns all images on the page

You can use the target= request to limit the api to part of a page using a CSS selector - for example if you call:

This will return all the text within links on the homepage.

This will return all the links and urls in the community links list (useful if you want to embed them in your own site)

ADDITIONAL FEATURE: You can now make pages with a .txt file type, they will be rendered as plaintext and not HTML pages - along with .json, .xml, .x3d files

So... I really love the everyone website. 

I knew about it but I didn't really take the time to look through it thoroughly until this Monday.

I've been somewhat disenchanted with the personal webpage scene for a while.
More often than not, it feels like I've already seen everything,
and for my own websites, I'd rather just streamline it.

But this dynamic where anyone can edit anyone else's page switches it up and makes it really fresh and worth doing.
It's more of a group activity, which is why I think working on the everyone site is WAY COOLER than working on a personal page.

Hot Take. I know.

So I'd like to tell you about some pages I did.

https://everyone.melonland.net/nobo -- This is my room. You can play my first web game and add your name and link to the petition to... IDK.

https://everyone.melonland.net/diction -- This is room without style where any word that you click on will have a dictionary popup. I left it plain so that anyone who wanted to try styling the page could give it a whirl. You can also add a chapter to the page. The theme is to try to use interesting vocabulary words to show off the dictionary.

Now I have a lot of back-reading in this thread to do.

~ Everyone Site Updates ~

Hello everyone editors! I was feeling very inspired today after watching Ted Nelson videos and I added some features to the everyone site!

• Margin notes - every pad now has a matching margin notes pad that goes along side it, the notes are not rendered on the page, but you can use them to discuss and plan pages without getting in the way of the actual code!
• Everywhere-Links - every word on every page that matches a page name will automatically turn into a link now! So for example if I wrote "I think space is cool", the word "space" would automatically link you to the space page! (this is something Id like to bring to the forum too if it works out)
• Syntax highlighting - While doing updates I found a cool plugin that adds syntax highlighting, so its now much easier to see what code your are working on!
• Author colors are now way less obtrusive.
• I made it so links no longer work in the pad editor so they dont keep oping all the time

Margin notes and Syntax highlighting are amazing quality of life features. No more walls of comments in the code anymore.

I'm not sure about text to links. Might make it confusing whether a link was added by the page creator or is an everywhere-link. Maybe add some way to differentiate between them (like having a symbol before the everywhere link).

Ohhh that's a great update!

I still keep wanting to do something for the everyone site, and not getting around to it. My ideas are just too vague to execute. Maybe I should just browse the different pages until I find something I want to add to!

There's so many pages I haven't seen yet, but it sounds like the new update would make it a lot easier to find them :D

I added a light bulb icon before all everywhere links! I also added a class "everywhere-link" so you can CSS override the link if you wish. I also made it so any external links show an icon (same as @ribose did for the wiki a while ago) - and those icons should appear across the forum too!

EDIT: I also added support for .xsl files, meaning the community RSS feed should render properly now! @b-lly

Everywhere-Links

We prob need to tone down the everywhere links a little now. They are really fun, but at this rate every word is gonna be a link

My thinking is that we only highlight one of each word for common words, and then we highlight all unique words, but I'm open to feedback!

heheheh, i agree. i've been keeping an eye on the web craft guide intro as more common words have become everywhere links and, as it is now, it's a little cumbersome to read...

would you have to manually sort which words are common/unique?! that sounds very tedious, but maybe there's an easier way to do it. what about linking the first occurrence of each word, regardless of how common or unique it is? that would sort of follow the wikipedia manual of style and be more familiar to people.

another thought -- i like that there's an icon indicating that a link is an everywhere link, but maybe it could be toned down? the lightbulb is very eye-catching. maybe it won't be so distracting when there are fewer of them, but something to consider... oh! another way to tone them down would be to add something like
