Hiya!! I'm wanting to have a bit of a browse on my Dreamcast, but I can only view HTTP pages that aren't very intensive! Does anybody have any recommendations?  :dive:  I've played around a bit with wiby.me (search engine), frogfind (another search engine!), a bit of theoldnet, and 68knews :) Thank you!  :4u:

I'd also love to explore the web with my Dreamcast but I don't have the means to do so. How did you get the Dreamcast online?

I'd also love to see guides or examples of websites optimised for the Dreamcast!

Found an interesting video about Dreamcast online gaming:

Online with the Sega Dreamcast in 2022 by ModernVintageGamer
Youtube:

Shown websites are those:

http://textfiles.com/
@Magpie: Sounds like have found the best tools for HTTP web search already.

Certainly impressive, that Dreamcast. Like in the Windows 98 world, there still are some online games being played in the Dreamcast world as well.

I do not know about the capabilities/limitations of browser in Sega Dreamcast specifically; but I know of one text-only forum named Blue Dwarf, which is available in plain-olde HTTP, which I have heard that its owner has been quite serious about making it viewable under any browser under the sun; so you might want to try.

He even has a so-called "hall of fame" page there, which specifically collect screenshots and photographs of people successfully using various kinds of retro computing devices (gaming devices like Nintendo DSi and 3DS included) to view/use that site.

Note: That whole site is also hosted on a single-board computer in that guy's home; this fact might or might not interest you. If I remembered correctly, this guy runs like... half-dozen websites out of a single 6 Mbit/sec residential ADSL connection (1 Mbit/sec upload speed), which is really impressive.

Another website among that half-dozen is an essay site called A Cheapskate's Guide to Computers and the Internet; which apart from being viewable on HTTP, it should be of an interest to the general populace of MelonLand as well.

P.S. My own personal website is also viewable on HTTP, but I doubt you would find it that interesting; it is a pretty narrowly-focused site at the moment.

YES! MY TIME IS NOW! AAAHHHHHHH!!
I have a whole list I've been collecting specifically for this purpose because I also have a Dreamcast I want to use to browse the internet. I haven't gotten to yet because I don't have the stuff for it (I do have the Pi, a web browser, a Dreamcast, and all that jazz but I need to get the phone cord and all of those other pieces and stick those all together and all that). But I've been preparing. Now I am not sure 100% if they'll work. They could have things under the hood I can't see and all that. I haven't gotten to test them at all. But I'll put them here anyways and maybe you can tell me if they work or not lol.
And that's all I got... I didn't say it was a very big list  :drat: (Though now I have a lot more to add thanks to all of yall's suggestions)

There is also FrogFind, which I have not seen tested on a Dreamcast nor have I gotten the chance to test it myself, but it's intended specifically to be used with old crusty Macs and such from the 1990s so I am def sure it could work with a Dreamcast. It lets you search webpages and then is able to pull up the webpages it finds in a way that is friendly to the old browsers/computers through the magic of PHP. Limited of course, you're not getting a fully functional YouTube, but still.

I got the perfect website for you!
http://www.frogfind.com/

For some silly reason I'm forced to use flash for something and I'm planning on downloading a dated browser that still supports it, but with security patches, so I won't just downgrade firefox or chrome, it'd be so dumb.

I bookmarked this page in advance and added it to a text file, so I can add it to the browser later once i download and install it. It should work perfectly on youre dreamcast
