How to keep an artist busy at a quiet job

Hello Crafters!

I recently landed a desk job that will have the occasional lulls of inactivity. I'm a busy bee at heart so I need something artsy to keep my mind occupied but would also be pretty easy to set down and pick back up again.

I'm thinking about bringing my crochet in and working on simple patterns, but I'm not sure what would be best to work on in this scenario >_<

Does anyone have any recommendations for some easy/fun crochet projects to work on in my off time, or any craft/art activity in general?

A few ideas I have! If you have a computer at your work, a fun mess about in mspaint never hurt (even if it's just drawing fun shapes and such). You could also try learning some origami! There's endless possibilities with what you could create there. Bringing a small sketchbook to doodle in can help too!
I'll admit I'm not too well versed in crochet myself, I'm more of a knitter ehe. But making quilting squares is always a fun pass time for me that doesn't distract too much from whatever my work focus is, maybe you could even try some funky patterns :D

I second the idea Atari left in regards to a sketch book. I have had a few that I keep on me at times when I'm out. I do have one specifically for ink only sketches as a way to practice at getting more confident with my art since there is less room to fix mistakes. At the same time though, it really does give me more room to experiment and focus on doodling. There are also some free digital art apps on the mobile phone if you're more into digital art. I can't 100% get behind some of the pixel art apps though, but the only one that comes to mind is Autodesk's Sketchbook app. The free version is not restrictive and the premium package isn't always in your face.

As for crochet projects, not much come to mind except for maybe some small potholders. I do have some experience in the craft but I ought to get back into it since that would mean a better exercise for my fingers that is not typing away on the clacky keyboard or button pressing on the Switch's joycons...
