Good idea for a thread, hope to discover some fun games!

A game that I discovered last year is Neptune's Pride, basically a real-time 4X strategy game that you play over days/weeks, with a strong focus on diplomacy (and deception).

https://np.ironhelmet.com/

I played it last year for like 2 weeks, and yet I also played it for only 1 game because it took so long! Haven't really gotten back into it since, so if people on this board are down to try it we could set up a nice little lobby :ha:

Gonna bring this thread back from the grave because I'd really like some suggestions as well! I've played a lot of pet collectors (Dappervolk, Chicken Smoothie, Dragon Cave, Flight Rising, Goatlings, PokeFarm Q, and Warrenz), and I really like the overall structure and setup of these games, but... They kind of stress me out!

I always end up going through a period of fixation on games that have you collecting something, and not in a fun and curious way, but in a more compulsive way that isn't fun and is just stressful. Any pet game that also requires me to actually take care of the pet makes me SO ANXIOUS! It's not a real pet, so it's so hard to remember to feed it! But I still feel horrible when it either runs away or DIES!! The only virtual creature I can handle is my little Astrobotany plant, and even that one I struggle to remember to water sometimes.

Bringing this topic back because I'm looking for suggestions on this kind of games: particularly what I call the ".io" genre (.io termination optional). Called like that because of agar.io, of course.

You see, I'm going for long holidays this summer and I'll only be able to carry an office laptop that can't handle our usual modern games  :ziped: so I'd like to have something lighter to play with my BF whenever we get the chance. I thought agar.io and its brethen could fit the bill.

The only one I can recall right now and my personal favourite so far is Ducklings.io It's an adorable game where you are a duck swimming in a lake looking for lost ducklings and bringing them back to your nest to upgrade it and unlock hats for you. A simple, chill game (tho there's still thrills like stealing other players' ducklings or avoiding crashing into boats). I hope I can get to play this with my boyfriend and swim together looking for ducklings  :unite:

If anybody knows more games like this, where two people or more can share a small virtual space over a browser, I'd love to know  :transport:

this thread is interesting!

i wish Maplestory still existed like it did in the past, though now i don't wanna put up with the stuff it's got now. Girl of Destiny (3DS) is kinda the last taste of that lmao. is there an archive of Maplestory? i know it still exists on Nexon but i have Linux plus, what do you think i just said?
PokeFarm-Q looks really fun, but i've also wondered about Gaia Online, is that any good?

As far as I've heard, there is still a handful of people that play Gaia Online for the nostalgia. Apparently it's in a pretty sad state though, with very inattentive mods and little site traffic. They went through an absolutely insane in-game economic crisis back in the day that pretty well killed the game. I heard the devs hired actual economists to try to fix their extreme inflation problem, but ended up doing the opposite of what they were advised and the entire market crashed.

oh wow... that's actually really sad.

aside from that though, i wonder if it's still okay enough to play? or if it's just not worth it?

I still play it sometimes. It's pretty much an avatar dressup game with other little extra things to do on the side. They added a Pokemon clone minigame you can play that allows you to make a decent amount of gold once you've leveled up your character and monsters enough (edit: I think this was added to combat the inflation, that's why I'm mentioning it). I play that when I want to buy new items for my avatar.

That being said, the forums are pretty inactive other than a single board (the random/spam board) which is kinda a cesspit. There is not a whooole ton to do if you aren't constantly into collecting new clothes, so I often go months without playing. What's neat though is that most people who play are in their late 20s/early-mid 30s and play due to nostalgia, so it's good if you're looking to hang with people in that age group.

They do still introduce new items and features, and are trying to revive old ones that went defunct with Flash, so I haven't given up hope yet...  :wizard:
