Hello there!~ my name is charlie :) i just registered last night and i am so excited to be a part of this forum!
i have never used a forum before but my parents met on a forum

im 22 i live in seattle and i do a lot of woodworking, i used to do a lot of comics but my love for comics has withered away but check out The Gull Yettin by Joe Kessler thats my fav graphic novel. i dont have a fav wood worker

^ here is a bench i made for my backyard!

i am very interested in making and learning art forms that will be useful if society ever collapses lol. i do book binding and woodworking those fall into that category in my mind loll i did have a dream that i started learning to crochet.

i gained interest in making websites through this artist collective called paper rad  you should absolutely go check them out! theyre website is so super insane and kept me entertained for hours . i really like the idea of making art that keeps audiences either engaged for a really long time or at least constantly returning. http://www.paperrad.org/newindex.html

^ heres their website

i also read the book Digital Folklore by Olia Lialina and Dragon Epenscheid

its a fun book to leaf through and can give you a bit of insight into the significance of the internet when it first came out as well as the politics of capitalizing it-- i have a lot of opinions on that but theyre all basic opinions that prob every one shares. basically captialism made the internet boring

i see the internet as an artistic tool that encourages creativity--~~ in my personal beliefs about learning i think that one should be able explore and play around with their tools in whatever way suits them best. people will for sure learn in their own time about how to work these tools but the will burn out way less easy. i am extremely anti burn out despite getting burnt out a lot lol.
i am also interested in community living-- asking questions like, how i can i help/ what can i provide for people that i live with? what do i notice that irks me about my people, what can i let slide and what should i bring up? how do i learn about the others around me? am i letting them be themselves around me or am i projecting something onto them?

any ways check out my profile to find my website! message me about my interests listed on my profile or anything that strikes your interest in this post lol

send me awesome artists, websites and books to read!

i look forward to getting to know you all!

much love,
charlie

Hey Charlie! Great to meet you! :ozwomp:

I will admit up front that I was never any good at working with my hands and making stuff (mild hypermobility is my lame excuse, haha), but I have the utmost respect for sculptors. I love art in general (consuming it more than making it), but sculpture is something that really fascinates me. It's crazy to think that, from a certain perspective, whatever it is a sculptor creates is there already—it's just a matter of removing the excess to get to the truth within! My Grandad made a table years ago that he has in his conservatory and I've always just boggled with wonder at it.

I love that bench, it's really nicely done! How long have you been woodworking? And speaking of benches, I saw on your profile that you really like them as a motif, which is a really interesting way of looking at it. Is it the symbolism of them you enjoy? Because yeah, I can definitely see how that would be a thing: a welcome rest along the way, a place to sit and watch the world go by, that sort of thing :cheesy:

I know virtually nothing about astrology, but I notice that you're a Cancer sun and Scorpio moon—so am I! My rising is Taurus though. Like I say, this all means very little to me, but it's cool that we have that in common! What does having our particular combination of sun and moon signs entail?

Anyway, hope you're enjoying the forum so far! Have a great day! :seal:

EDIT TO ADD: I completely forgot to ask you about music! Who are your favourite artists?

Hello there!~ my name is charlie :) i just registered last night and i am so excited to be a part of this forum!
i have never used a forum before but my parents met on a forum hooked up for a couple weeks and had me lol. im not looking to recreate this............

Wow that is very out of pocket. Forums were very different back then Im afraid online dating is unfortunately very unsafe now so I would say you should never meet online

its interesting that you say you found out about the indie web thro an art project bc that's exactly how I found out about the indie web I remember it was just a random youtube video that had nothing to do with the indie web and the creator just had a section promoting their friends art project and it was linked in the description it was totally bizarre to see and I had never seen anything online like it I was immediately fascinated and I was really happy to find out that there was a whole community like that and that neocites was free to host on so I was hooked pretty quick on this stuff

it looks like you front a lot of art and that's cool Ill definitely need to take a look at your site

Personal websites are always a lot of fun to take a look at there's always more to find so its pretty cool you can also just make lots of friends here but I only really have one close one I met them on neoctities its interesting bc you can always make friends with ppl that don't share a lot of your same intrestist you can kinda expose your self to lots of people you would have never been friends with in the first place and that's always really cool
