Got the Galaxy Z Flip3 last week, and so far I'm pretty content with it! It's kind of a compromise between a 'regular' smartphone and a dumb flipphone but there's some apps I just can't do without right now so this is pretty ideal for me. Had my previous phone for about 4 years and I really didn't care for getting Just Another Smartphone; no real reason to upgrade if I don't need the extra power anyway, I just text on different platforms with my friends mostly.

Was pretty worried about it being fragile before buying it but I just slapped a case and a screen protector for the outer screen on there and now it feels like there's nothing to worry about. Really like it so far, hope it holds up!

If you're wondering what that terrible cannabis theme is, it's because when I acquired this phone I looked up themes online and they all were wonderfully early-2000s horrible. It was one that embraced the "cool around Y2K" theme the most.

NP, we don't snitch LOL

I've got a budget Android ZTE through Consumer Cellular's AARP line - don't ask even how I got on that plan in my early 30's LOL. It's as serviceable as the top-of-the-line Verizon Android I had from a couple years ago, without the bloatware footprint

I currently use a galaxy s20. It serves me well for what I need (An over-complicated MP3 player, Cheap camera and a place to message family.) I rarely use it for anything else, mainly because I way prefer PC's. I've actually been thinking because of this thread and was wondering if anyone would have any recommendations for a phone that is simpler? I love myself a good flip phone but either because of nostalgia pricing or my ignorance I can't seem to find a flip phone that is both reasonably priced and usable as a camera/music device.

sadly, the feature phone market is currently in a pretty depressing state. because phone manufacturers have shifted all of their development focus and efforts to smartphones, feature phones have regressed quite a bit since their 2000s-2010s heyday. however, there are still some decent devices out there - you can use the dumbphone finder website to search for phones by carrier compatibility, features, OS, etc.

my personal recommendation for a good modern flip phone is the sonim XP3+. (i haven't used this phone in particular, but do i have the XP5s, which runs basically the same OS.) it's not the prettiest phone out there (and it's quite chonky), but it's got standard MP3 player and FM radio functionality, plus a pretty good 8MP camera. (i think it might actually have the best camera out of any modern feature phone to date. it's only fixed-focus, but almost every other feature phone currently being made is equipped with a pretty bad sub-2MP camera.)

if you still want to have a smartphone but want something a bit different, i'd recommend checking out the phones that unihertz makes. (note that their phones don't work on at&t!) my daily driver phone is their titan pocket, a modern android smartphone built in the form factor of a classic blackberry, complete with a physical keyboard. i've talked about it before in this thread here and here. i've also heard good things about the jelly 2, which has a more standard smartphone form factor except for the fact that it's extremely tiny.

I wonder what the price for the cheapest possible phone is at your area. Aren't there lots of old phones sitting around in stores that sell used goods? Online, you'd get a phone for 5 Dollars, I'm sure.

I use the same phone since 15 years, some old Sony-Ericsson. It can play music and has a pathetic little camera. But most important: It gets my voice from A to B. It runs on the fourth battery already, which still can be bought and replaced easily.

But beware of what your local mobile network providers are doing. The old mobile phones might be out of business, when GSM / EDGE (2G) is being shut down. In Switzerland for example, your old mobile phone wouldn't work anymore. So your mobile phone must be new enough to somehow make it to 4G LTE or 5G networks.

I have had the same smartphone for about four years now, and I still love it. Samsung Galaxy S9. Good camera, runs well, not full of bugs like my first smartphone was.

Honestly I do miss my old Motorola Razr flip-phone though, for it's cute style.

I've been looking into some of these options and I honestly think I might end up going for one of these! As well as what gans said, I've been looking around my local used phone stores, marketplace, that sort of stuff. I've found a couple possibilities. Hopefully I can decide soon that way I can use it as an excuse to buy myself a christmas gift

I have a Sony Xperia 10 III. My last 2 phones were Sony Xperia Compacts so small in physical size but unfortunately, they don't make those anymore. At least this current one is less wide than most phones, but I wish the camera was better.

oh man, i've always loved weird cell phones! sadly, there are very few options for cool, weird phones nowadays, but some still exist if you look hard enough. my main phone is a unihertz titan pocket, probably the last phone still being made with a real qwerty keyboard. it looks like a blackberry, but it actually runs android 11. here's mine running my super custom home screen that makes it feel like a proto-smartphone from like 2010:

OMG I've been looking for a good phone for ages that has a full QWERTY keyboard (touchscreen annoys me so much). Thank you so much for sharing, I might look into this! :cheesy:

anyway, I have a Moto g power atm and it's alright as far as smartphones go, but I'd like to have something more compact for my pockets and with actual physical buttons (but isn't a complete dumbphone). I'm switching from my AT&T service to T-Mobile because AT&T is utter crap where I live, so I may be getting a new phone soon anyway.

One other phone I was thinking of getting is the CAT s22 flip or Sonim XP3, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about them yet, and the former is out of stock at my local place.

I have a Redmi Note, as far as smartphones go it's probably one of the most generic-looking ones. My whole family can only tell our phones apart by pictures we have on the back of them.

HOWEVER I do have this little guy for the soul. It's not the original one, it's a rebuild, but it's done so up to the real thing that it literally cannot connect to the modern Internet at all no matter how hard I try ahah.

It is a total joy to replay some old .java games though. Emulators are just not it. And as far as calls and SMS go it's perfectly usable. Playing music, too, but I don't have headphones with the right jack, whoops. (But I DO still have the old Walkman thingy that could be jacked into Sony Ericssons and played your music on a radio frequency! it's like a Bluetooth speaker but retro :cheesy:D)

I have a 3rd gen. iPhone SE. I'll honestly take it over any other modern iPhone or smartphone in general because I just... don't like long buttonless phones. I sometimes wonder if they still make smaller phones with buttons but never bothered to search about it, so this thread is somewhat refreshing.
