:waving_hand: last year i invented suck at something september. well it’s september again, so let’s go!!

people are always trying to be good at things. the desire to do a good job often becomes a fear of doing a bad job, which then turns into a fear of doing anything at all. i hate practicing things because i hate being bad at stuff, which means i rarely get any better at anything! sometimes you must simply be bad at things.

it is very easy to participate in this event.

STEP ONE: Decide to do something. Come up with a good idea.
STEP TWO: Post what you have decided to do here. Or on your blog or something? I don’t care. As long as you announce it publicly before you start.
STEP THREE: Do it, poorly.
STEP FOUR: Post what you did.
STEP FIVE: Give yourself one (1) sincere & specific compliment and one(1) sincere & specific critique.

as i said last year

the general idea is to allow yourself to make the bad version of something you may think “i would, but i can’t make that because i don’t know how to do [xyz]” or “i wish i could do that, but it just isn’t practical” or something similar about. you can make it, it’ll just be bad - so do it bad. if you don’t know how to make a div do something, brute force an approximation with what you do know, or attempt to learn and give up halfway, or implement a broken version that doesn’t work at all.
try to resist the urge to edit mistakes, polish things, or keep bashing your head against something you can’t figure out. just let it suck, give up and move on to the next thing; if the next thing is “declaring it finished because it’s making you mad,” then so be it!

if you fail at something, do a bad job, disappoint and frustrate yourself, make a bad web page, break your whole code, make a mess, or otherwise Suck At Something, then you have succeeded at Suck At Something September. great job!

the thing you make would ideally be a web page, but if you would really really really prefer to suck at making a sculpture or a painting or something else that is not a web page that’s acceptable.
you do have to put it ON a web page though.
if you would prefer to make something that’s not a web page because you are too good at making web pages, then you ought to try being bad at making web pages instead. it’s good for you!

your suck at something september project is finished when you give up and declare it done enough or at the end of september, whichever comes first.

this year i’ve made a shiny wooden plaque so you can have a new prize if you got one already last year. which i dont think anyone in the cafe did, but regardless.

as you can see, i’m starting off sucking this month by posting this late!
at the moment i am on a sewing kick and not much in the mood for web art, so i don’t have any ideas at all yet. fortunately “running” this “event” is still something i can do a bad job at even if i don’t come up with anything else!

What a great idea! I saw this last year but didn't participate, so I'll try it out this year.

My fiance recently got into 3d printing as a hobby, and has been buying broken 3d printers and tinkering them to fix them. He's gotten to the point where they all print fairly well, so it's inspired me to take up 3d modelling to see if I can design some kind of character or creature figure.

I think my goal for this month will be to do some introductory Blender tutorials and maybe model something to print if I have the time

If I have the time, I'd love to try and figure out how to imitate how petsites make interactive pages with things like energy bars and stuff. This is well beyond my skill level. It will go absolutely disastrously. But I am too curious to NOT try doing something at least vaguely similar

This sounds like tons of fun! I've never participated in a web event before, so starting with one where I am allowed to suck seems like a good idea. I've got a copy of RPG Maker XP that's been sitting around on my computer untouched for almost two years, so I think I might try to make a short game (complete with a shitty download page, of course!)

Oh, I'll definitely participate in this, and probably with a drawing.

Drawing has always been a major insecurity of mine since I've always wanted to be really good at art (I'm decent at painting, mind you), but when it comes to drawing human anatomy, even when it's stylized, I'm downright terrible. My family says I'm often much too hard on myself, so maybe hearing a compliment for something I think is terrible will help me a bit.

This is inspiring and I would like to take part in this!

My idea is to make a Blog and do some Posts. I've never been good at blogging or even social media sharing because I have trouble being earnest and open on the internet (or anywhere public). In previous experiences of journalling I get caught up in trying to record my feelings / thoughts / interiority more than actual events and experiences, which are more important for memory! And for others to relate to maybe.

SO - my goal is to make a blog, linked to my website, and write at least two (2) posts which are almost entirely Factual Information about things that happened in my Life.

The posts will be bad.

This is such a fun idea! I have always wanted to learn Twine, and make some fun interactive stories. I have always wanted to learn Twine and add it to my toolbox of game development tools, and I'm both afraid of being technically bad as well as bad at writing a story. So my goal is by the end of the month is to make a complete story in Twine including visuals and a fun story! Nothing huge, but somewhat substantial is the goal. To prove to myself that I can do it.

I finally decided I want to suck at making a zine this month.
I will try my uproarious best to get it done this month.
The time constraint is what is going to make this thing suck,
and I'll use the Electric Zine Maker because I've been itching to try it out for a while.

I'm going to fight my perfectionism with this one, but it'll be good sparring.

this month I finally finished my latest character animation + uploaded a new blogpost! I'm not really sure what or who I'm writing for, but I did it and I might've sucked at it but heyo at least I started and completed something!! (^_^)b

I finally got an iPad as a perk with my new job, so I immediately installed ProCreate and had a go at digital art for the first time! I followed this tutorial, but I did my best to add my own spin. I'm pretty glad with how it went! Obviously there's a lot of stuff to sort out next time, like the weird contrast between blurry and non-blurry parts of the picture, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how well this turned out for a first time!

For this SASS I am going to be writing some more! you can find me on my a03, wordsforthebirds, I write fanfics and oc stories.

My current goal is to finish a five chapter fic. I figure if I do one a day for five days, that will give me a rough draft in less than a week! Hopefully that is not too ambitious.

It's nothing massive, but I tried working on a potential clownsona I've always wanted to have. I improvised the design, so it's definitely not final and there's some things I'd like to change (mainly the hat....I don't think I like the hat).


I also considered using a sharpie on the black parts, but idk. I thought the lack of it would add to the supposed shittiness
