Hello everyone, my first thread here!

Like the title says, have you revisited an old, long-forgotten fandom of yours recently? Like a fandom of a TV show/video game/book etc. that you loved years ago but had since moved on from? And if you have, have you revisited any of your old "haunts" e.g. LiveJournal, old forums, abandoned Tumblr blogs, for a trip down memory lane?

I've been finding myself doing this over the past year and I was very surprised that I became re-fixated on an old fandom of mine that I stopped thinking about back in 2012 (it's Hetalia XD)! I'm also currently revisiting Homestuck since that new animated pilot dropped and it's bringing back long-forgotten memories of when I was a teenager about to leave school, and all the thoughts and feelings I had at the time, both good and bad. It's interesting to me how the fandoms I've been in throughout my life have become a way of documenting my life, like a digital crumb trail

Dunno for fandoms, but it's been 9 months since I last logged to melonland, so you could say I'm finally revisiting it after all this time.  :ha:

I revisited five nights at Freddy’s a few months ago now and had a bit of fun with it. It mostly happened out of pure coincidence when I got one of those “fnaf vhs” inspired videos in my recommended (specifically this one) and was hooked by the gradual sense of dread it built in its atmosphere and dialogue, as well as the acting. It ended up with me going down a sort of rabbit hole of these kind of videos until I tried refreshing myself on the fnaf lore with that one god forsaken eight hour long video detailing the lore from all of the games (I did not finish it lol).

I dropped off from fnaf originally in like, 2016 to 2017, around the time sister location came out. I assume it was largely out of moving onto new interests. And maybe also the fatigue I got trying to understand all of the story and lore from each game. I had never really thought about fnaf or engaged with anything about it since this year actually. I wonder if a part of that was also because I just didn’t want to associate with something that had/has such an intense fanbase of mostly kids, as well as the fact that (and I’m gonna be blunt sorry-) the games are kind of mid most of the time.

That being said though I came out of it still kind of feeling a fondness and appreciation for the games and franchise as a whole. Seeing all of the animatronics from the first three games specifically felt like seeing old friends again to me. I also gained more of an appreciation for the designs of the animatronics. Fnaf 2 has some of my absolute favourite designs that still genuinely unsettle me, specifically withered Bonnie and chica are so horrible looking to me (in a good way). Also my goat mangle is in that game and I love him/her/them to death. I also really enjoy the general atmosphere of the first few games. I absolutely adore the ambiance and art direction of the visuals of the first couple of fnaf games. I even oddly enough enjoyed the security breach designs despite them basically being kid horror slop. Idk, I just like that they low-key made them into sparkle dogs lmaoo

I wish I still had an archive of all of the old crappy fnaf fanart I made when I was 9-10 yrs old. I remember I would find any and all kind of scrap paper in my classroom and draw power puff girl inspired designs of the fnaf animatronics as that’s all I could draw at the time. These drawings were all lost I think when the summer holidays started and I left them all in my classroom folder. They’re probably destroyed now. The few fnaf related art pieces I do have from that time are mlp colouring in sheets that I coloured in to look like the fnaf animatronics.

I don’t really regret the fnaf phase of my childhood as it was one of the few things that really got me into drawing and art, as well as horror in general. So I’m thankful for its existence. :> (I do not fw Scott Cawthon though)

I revisit my old fandoms occasionally and usually the re-emergence of the fixation hits me like a freight train. It helps that for a lot of them I have stuff saved or can revisit the old stuff I created for it. It doesn't totally satiate the craving, but I usually avoid trying to fully come back into it 'cause I know it won't last.

About a year ago tho I got a baaad case of a fandom revival for an anime I liked in 2013-2014 and I got in so deep I full on revived my old roleplay blog on Tumblr. Mixed emotions, to be honest, seeing as all my old co-players also moved on in a decade. Plus, the last time I was active the anime was actively coming out and therefore at its peak, with a lot of players around, and the Tumblr RP sphere itself was much more active and bustling, so in comparison now it was. A bittersweet experience :ohdear: But I did play around with some other characters, mostly OCs, and even managed to accidentally drag an old co-player out of retirement 'cause they saw a familiar name in their email notifications, remembered me and logged back on. That was fun! But it's always kinda sad when that second wave fizzles out again.

On a side note, oh yeah, Hetalia, my old past. Just recently had my dad reading the news and casually asking me if I ever heard of a nation called Sealand. I physically felt like a good 15 years melting off of me 'cause my only close interaction with that nation was APH.

I haven't logged in for months either, today is the first time I've been back in like over a year I reckon.

I revisit old fandons often and always find out that my passion never died but just got dormant, sometimes I simply temporarily forget that they are there until I see some really cool art of it. c:

Sometimes stepping out from a fandom for a while is exactly what you need specially in fandoms that grew up too quickly or too toxic.

This long video offers a very interesting overview of the my little pony fandom before, during and after the brony cultural boom through the eyes of a my little pony fan and it exemplifies perfectly why sometimes stepping away and taking a break is the right thing to do. If anything, pausing and coming back later will at least give you a laugh about the things we used to enjoy or fortify our interests even more in something

This is how I also look at it! I can really recall where I was at in my life just by remembering what fandoms I was in and what I was saying. This is exactly why I made a Tumblr backup so those memories don't get lost.

I revisit some fandoms, not all. Sometimes I just remember a media or am reminded of it, and then I jump back into the memories for a day or two. Can't really remember the most recent one, though I did wake up this morning thinking of Gundam Witch From Mercury...
