Navigating on the internet is my passion. I love to discover new communities, ideas, articles, concepts and websites of any kind.
Sometimes it gets kind of lonely. Some other times I'd like to see what someone else is thinking about some of my favorite places on the internet and to share theirs.
I also want to have a better medium for storing these links. Something better than a simple bookmark manager. Or at least more creative. I sometimes feel like these tools exist only for you to forget about them. They're not engaging, for some reasons. I tend to read a lot from my RSS feeds, but these simple links stored somewhere are often forgotten. What I'm saying - they're always forgotten.

I wonder if there is or was a community dedicated exclusively on sharing such links? I'm thinking about something like a forum, where people can have their own corner with their shares (and with the possibility to organize them), so others can see their lists and such.

StumbleUpon used to be exactly this, for example. I think you were also able to also check other users profiles and see what links they liked and what they shared, but I was always focusing on discovering them myself without paying too much attention to the community. Now I want that back.

I know about all the new alternatives that popped up recently like Viralwalk, Cloudhiker, Jumpstick, maybe others, but they're not even close to what StumbleUpon used to be and the potential it could've had in the future.

Does anyone know a project like this? Does is sound fun, at least? I also found Aren.na, which is a Pinterest for links. It's fun, but it has its limitations.

I have nothing to say except to bump because I genuinely really miss stumbleupon even though it really stagnated in its latter years bc it never found a funding model that made sense, the closest thing we have is webrings and I've seen private ad groups just for personal pages which I think are really cool

Linkhut, it's open source so it's possible to self host. There's other instances around. The main instance is mostly tech related with little interaction.

32-Bit Cafe has a forum subsection dedicated to sharing links, it's fairly active.

Knockout has a link sharing thread, slow, but has good links.

And here on Melonland there's a section for sharing links too.

alternativeto is what i use very often, but it's about websites and apps only. as you can guess from the name, it's about looking for alternatives. features: rate, comment, update info on websites, create custom lists and share news. i'm having much fun there ^^

BUKMARK.CLUB is a webring with personal websites that have links collections! not necessarily organized, but still fun.

freemediaheckyeah is a collection limited by free stuff. contribution is possible, but it's not as fun as alternativeto for me.
