nokia n900 prototype help

hi so i have a nokia n900 prototype in my posession and im just wondering if the fact that its freeware(?) is gonna limit any later modding i might do. im not at the moment familiar with what kind of stuff is even possible to change on these things but im asking beforehand so i dont waste my time if it is gonna make stuff more annoying.

also any other tips relating to old phones ingeneral is appriciated
