Favorite Firefox Extensions

I have been diving more and more into customizing my browsing experience on Firefox and among the must haves like Ublock I have also found some cool extensions I really like such as Worldwide Radio which lets you tune in to various stations right in the browser and listen to music as you browse! I'm actually listening to Jamaican radio as I type this lol

What are some extensions you like a lot?

I try to keep the number of extensions down, but they keep adding up anyway. Mostly i just use functional stuff, more tools than toys.

I have uMatrix, uBlock, AdNauseam, and Temporary Containers for adblocking and privacy. uBlock comes built into LibreWolf (my Firefox fork of choice), and is better at cosmetic filters than AdNauseam. uMatrix probably breaks adblocker by blocking the ads first. It lets me control what embedded stuff gets loaded in what pages from what sources.

uBlacklist and Privacy Redirect are in the same vein. The first hides certain sites in search results, the second redirects certain sites to less terible alternative frontends, like Reddit to Libreddit or YouTube to Invidious.

I also use Leechblock to make sure i don't spend too much time on this and a few other sites, and just yesterday i installed Mind the Time to track screen time by site, since i'm curious to see where i spend the most time.

Altho you didn't ask what extensions i use, you asked about favorites. I'd say uMatrix is my single favorite browser extension. If i had to use just one, i'd probably choose it even over uBlock.

I like DecentralEyes and Privacy Badger for blocking trackers and other web crap.

I've also used FraidyCat in the past, which is an RSS feed reader in your browser. It was great until I got my own MiniFlux server set up.

MeasureIt! is one I've used for ages, and it adds a little measuring tape to the page so that you can measure out pixels for graphic design work. ColorZilla is also helpful, because it lets you pick up colors from around the web and get their hex values.

i only have three browser extensions! i won't install anything that's not my favorite 

first is stylus! i used to put all my userstyles directly into firefox's userContent.css file, but stylus makes it soooo much easier to make/edit/organize them. it can fetch styles from and upload styles to userstyles.world as well.

second is uBlock for blocking ads, as others have already mentioned.

third is Zotero's browser extension for saving articles to my library. it's the citation manager i use for writing papers at work.

back when i was on mastodon, i used streetpass for mastodon, which lets you know when site you've visited have mastodon accounts linked to them. it's very cute, but i don't have a use for it anymore!

there's all the good, reliable stuff for adblock, paywall bypassing, and fighting the good fight against the sludge and slop of the web, but i think folks have covered those sufficiently, so i'll share... my favourite extensions that don't do that!

one of the first extensions i put on firefox was, naturally, the nyan cat youtube progress bar. i believe the name speaks for itself 

i also gave myself a custom scrollbar, to match my firefox theme.

i use tabliss for notes, to track my work day, and to just have rotating seasonal gifs greet me whenever i open a new tab.

sage-like is my go-to rss reader. very easy and intuitive, and has given me an easy breezy way to keep up with newsletters, webcomics, and so on without my emails getting too busy.

finally, onetab is probably the extension i'm the most reliant on. i open a lot of tabs every day, and i've never really been one for using bookmarks, so it fits into my workflow pretty much flawlessly.

I really rely on News Feed Eradicator to keep me from scrolling, especially through reddit and youtube.

Another youtube fix is: DeArrow. It changes the thumbnails for most video previews which makes the whole grid so much more calming and practical.

Privacy Badger and Adblock are the ride or dies of course xx

indiewiki buddy is good if you'd rather support independent wikis for games and stuff instead of fandom wikis.
i use the stampbook to save buttons of websites i like, stamps, blinkies, whatever web graphics i find
colorzilla allows you to color pic from web images and sites and honestly whatever you need to colorpick
unhook, because i hate youtube shorts and seeing them with a firey passion. note that if someone sends you a short you want to watch, you should turn shorts back on temporarily or you wont be able to see em

i have a fair bit of extensions:

noScript and uBlock quite useful to make some websites less annoying
youtube dislike, sponsorblock, and dearrow are quite nice to make youtube a bit nicer, though i use invidious anyways with
redirector, a really nice generic url redirector i use to avoid certain sites and use alternate frontends
wayback machine is nice to have when you need it, and also it helps contribute to saving websites automatically which is really nice
we were online is a smallweb ish extension that saves your mouse movements and shows a cute little graph of your lifetime movements and also doubles as a timer for how long youve spent on certain sites (though its a bit innacurate since it doesnt consider when the window is unfocused)
egg room is a 100% silly extension that has a random chance to redirect a page to the egg room from deltarune

I see a few of my favorites have already been mentioned (Onetab, DeArrow), but here's a couple more I really like!

Animalese Typing. It's just a fun little extension that makes it so whenever you type in your browser, it'll make the same little noises as it does when you type in Animal Crossing 

I also love Firefox's Multi-Account Containers. I don't use it for multiple accounts, but I like to think it helps keep my stuff more private.

And finally my love-hate relationship, Lean Tab Limiter. Without limits I would have open dozens of tabs at all times. But having too many tabs open stresses me out, so here's where this comes in! Having a limit of how many tabs I can have open also helps me to be more mindful about how I'm spending my time.

Webextensions can heavily slow down my browser, so I'm not really looking for a lot. I personally believe uBlock Origins is the best there is just because it makes my browsing experience more pleasant when the ads are distracting and I'm not even intertested in most of them anyway.

NoScript is similar, but it's a all or nothing deal and since most websites rely on javascript it's functionally not that good.

I use Facebook Container instead of multi accounts containers because I use facebook, but it's just as good.

Scroll lock is if you ever play web games and pressing on spacebar causes the whole window to shift down. This is only a bug on firefox/librewolf, not brave/chrome/vivaldi/opera etc

Pixiv downloader if you use pixiv, you can download entire galleries with it.

Simple mass downloader makes downloading lots of images quickly easy instead of right-clicking each separate times.

And finally my love-hate relationship, Lean Tab Limiter. Without limits I would have open dozens of tabs at all times. But having too many tabs open stresses me out, so here's where this comes in! Having a limit of how many tabs I can have open also helps me to be more mindful about how I'm spending my time.

Omg I should really install this one ngl because I have the same problem. It's especially bad on librewolf because since it's based on firefox it only shows a small portion of the open tabs (outside of about:processes, but yeah not very fun)

I use NoScript but more so I can select which scripts run and which don't. I still get confused for a bot sometimes, even after I allow javascript and cookies.

+1 for Ublock Origin

Personally I like using Bypass Paywalls-Clean, which got DMCA'd on github but the dev posts updates here now.

I also use FraidyCat, which is a huge help for keeping me off social media.

For academics that don't have time to try seven different bypasses when accessing a non-institutionally covered journal, try UnPaywall. It's helped a couple of times.

Other than that, Unhook, Dark Reader, and a linkedin feed blocker that i am not quite sure is secure (but the tradeoff is worth it i freaking hate linkedin)

Have so many extensions on Firefox but here is my personal favs!

~Free Download Manager, if you have any downloads that are too big with pretty slow connection you can use this! You can also set the priority to be higher for faster downloading! You will need the app as well tho :p

~IndieWiki, Incredible to use!! Ever since I started using IndieWiki my laptop barely lags at all! Even with the adblockers I have for Fandom, Fandom still lags a lot. Personally, if the fandom I'm looking at doesn't have it's own site, then I always have it redirect to BreezeWiki! :3

Only problem (for me at least) is that it doesn't seem to work on mobile but that could because I have an IPod


~Remove Element, There are some sites that don't allow you to remove comments or remove stuff you don't want to see in general but I love remove element!! If you click on remove element and hover an element and click when it's highlighted, that piece won't show up anymore! Very useful for removing comments and other things! ^w^

~ClearURLs, Basically removes tracking elements from urls!

uBlock Origin, as mentioned before, is an absolute must.

A few nifty tools I use a lot are:
Measure-it - pull out a ruler and freely measure objects on your screen
ColorZilla - eyedropper color tool, works with both hex values and rgb
FireShot - lets you take screenshots of entire webpages (not just the part visible on the screen atm) and save/copy in various formats

And perhaps the most important one:
Pocket Bird - adds a little bird companion to your browser. Honestly don't know how I'd manage without it 😁💕
