Website size

Altogether, the directory of my site (that's the main domain and the ØɄ₮₴łĐɆ webring) comes out to 54MB.  The lion's share of that is from my (mostly) uncompressed art, clocking in at 39MB.  The pages, posts and custom backend combined barely made up half a megabyte.  When ran, the root landing page ends up being about 1.1MB, art page is 1.2MB; most pages after that typically hang from between 50KB and 150KB.

Mine's 22.33 MB. I haven't tried to be storage-efficient with my pictures, so if I wanted to I could probably whittle that number down a lot

I'll have to look later as my brain is getting a bit fried tonight due to lack of sleep last night.. but wow! This has been a fun and interesting read honestly, and it's interesting to see all the variation in website sizes as well as seeing the differences in websites around the same size..

About 85.01 MB of the 2 GB I get with my hosting plan. Not too bad, I'd never been able to reach even 1 GB when I was still on Neocities and had that limit.

26,4 GB, but if you look at my website's content you'll understand why. Obviously all that isn't loaded immediately, the pages themselves are less than a MB each of initial load. And I do use TinyJPG to compress all the thumbnails/images displayed to the user.

Had to go check cPanel for this, I've filled up 95.27 MB out of the 2 GB I get with my hosting plan. So not super small, but not quite up to a GB either.

Right now my site takes up 0.99mb, but that's because I haven't started putting much of my art on it yet.

When I get there, I will likely put art assets on external file hosts rather than neocities itself. That means tracking how much storage I'm using up will require adding the size of the on-neocities files and the external files together. I'm thinking of keeping things small by using a format like webp... except I find working with webp files really annoying, so maybe I'll stick to compressed pngs and jpgs.

I'm currently at 369.45 KB. Mostly because what few images I have there I have compressed really aggressively. I'm not really an artsy guy, so I really have to convince myself to use an image.

Folder is 1.7MB, website loads are 24KB. Tbh that's cause I went ultra minimalistic and refuse to use JS for most things, hopefully I'll spice it up soon :) (and also, hopefully I'll also keep it around the same size since I know a few things that are bloating the site :3)

According to neocities my site is 3.52 MB, which is great because it means I won't be hitting my head up against the 1GB limit any time soon lol. That being said my size is still a little bloated hahaha. Predictably most of my website's size are from images but there's plenty of images that I've uploaded to my site that aren't currently being used on the site proper. There's also plenty of half-finished webpages that aren't live yet, so that's a few precious kilobytes being gobbled up for no good reason LOL 

Even then I am anticipating that my site will balloon in size soon enough. I've been going through an updating blitz lately and one such update includes incorporating a blog that will feature posts with plenty of images, mostly video game screenshots and photos I've taken, and as we all know modern smartphone take photos at like 3000x3000 and a single photos filesize rivals the size of my entire site LOL. It goes without saying that those are going to be heavily resized, cropped, and compressed before they get slapped onto my website...

Are there any commonly employed tricks to keep website size down? Is it pretty much just compressing the images you plan on hosting on your site since that's where most of the size comes from to begin with? Even though 1 GB of webhosting space feels like more than enough for me at the moment I could totally see myself hitting that limit if I'm not careful
