Hey guys, I haven't really found a space on here for people to put their sites to get recommendations on what to do with them. I know that I'd like somewhere to put my website so that people can give me recommendations on what to do with it, so here it is. Just put in your website and check out other people's websites and recommend anything that you think would be a cool thing for them to add.  :seal:

Please don't be mean about it and the advice shouldn't be to completely change the style of the whole site.

Here's my site, what are your recommendations? AR3 Y0U L0ST?

Here's my site, what are your recommendations? AR3 Y0U L0ST?

I love how cozy your website is! The colours and patterns are pleasingly aesthetic, though I can't put a name to what kind of aesthetic it is right now. :ok:

I think you should definitely add an art gallery! Got all this great art dotted around so it would be neat to see more. (Melon's gallery maker might be handy here.) Though as I type this, I found the drawings link on the About Me page, which is supposed to show your Tumblr, but it breaks the iframe! Creating the gallery yourself and styling it to match the rest of the site would look so good. :ha:

I did find some broken elements while clicking around which I feel are worth mentioning:
  • The aforementioned Tumblr link on the About page breaks the iframe. Also couldn't tell they were links, almost missed them!
  • The Neocities link on the Home page breaks the iframe.
  • Arthur in the bottom right corner breaks on click, he cannot be properly poked. :((

Here's my website, any ideas are welcome! I basically put all my art on it and the occasional blog post, though I definitely wanna add other dashes of my personality to it down the line. First time asking for feedback on it here, though I've definitely added some things inspired by my time in the forums. :dive:

Sure, why not?

https://after-rain.net/ (do keep in mind that I have subdomains for stuff like my blog and guestbook, so please check the network page before suggesting.)

For Null, I think putting all of the ads on the front page in the links page (or maybe a dedicated ads page) would be good. It would make it much less cluttered (I'm struggling a bit to pay attention to things with all of them lol). Agreed with NipChip on the art gallery, though.

Thanks for the suggestions!!
I did find some broken elements while clicking around which I feel are worth mentioning:

Thanks for letting me know, the broken links were something I haven't touched since I first made the website so fixing them was long overdue  :drat:  I also fixed Arthur, he's pretty new so it makes sense that he's a little buggy, but it should be better now!

I think you should definitely add an art gallery! Got all this great art dotted around so it would be neat to see more. (Melon's gallery maker might be handy here.)
It took me a little bit, but I was able to start putting together a gallery! Editing the templates was pretty difficult to figure out but I got there in the end. A few of my more recent works are on there, though they're in alphabetical order, not chronological, I'll figure that out later

I checked out your website and to be honest I don't have much to suggest. Your website is super cool though, and the colors and shapes are nice! I suppose maybe filling up some of the blank space with your drawings? You're clearly a talented artist!

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from here, I've been trying to work on a toggle for the ads, but I haven't had a whole lot of success yet.

I checked out your website, and I really like the way it is styled! Maybe for the subdomains, having a larger link back to the main site would be good. Also the hedgehog guy (sorry, I'm not in the Sonic fandom) should maybe be moved up a few z-layers, since some of the text decorations cover them

Gallery looks great! Glad Melon's gallery maker worked out for you. :4u:

Thank you! Some little drawings and graphics would fill up the empty space nicely. Aside from the banner and page doll, there isn't much else graphics wise so it's going on my todo list. :ha:

https://after-rain.net/ (do keep in mind that I have subdomains for stuff like my blog and guestbook, so please check the network page before suggesting.)

Super clean and stylish! The combination of the character art, font choice and colours feels unique to your style. I adore that Silver the Hedgehog art. <3

You mentioned you were an artist, so perhaps add an image gallery for your art? :omg:

There's a pain point where clicking to every link in the network page opens up a new tab, and when I want to go back to the main page to check out the rest of them, I either have to close my current tab or I click the after-rain.net link at the bottom, which opens up a third tab! :ohdear: You won't lose anything by using the default behaviour of opening in the same tab, visitors are still on your site either way. I have opinions on the lack of mobile responsiveness as well but I did read your latest blog post so nevermind aha :tnt:

Regarding the z-index, it's meant to be like that. If you right click the header image, you can see that a lot of the text content container is attached to it. I'm also not sure what you mean by "larger link" since it is the regular link to my site (unless you mean font? but then that would mess up the delicate balance of my css lol).

I DID use to have an art gallery subdomain a while back, but I deleted it. Maybe one day I'll bring it back, idk.

I didn't realize target="_blank" was annoying. I'm used to always opening up everything on the web in a new tab, so I don't lose the original page (especially if I'm screwing around with inspect element), so that's something I coded in. It'll always just open in new tab so there's no instinctual opening for me (if any of that rambling makes sense)

As for mobile responsiveness...I haven't noticed any problems when I view on my phone. I end up sticking my images in the top corner anyways, so all I really have to do is just zoom out. I don't really know how responsive I could make it when its basically just a column on the left side of the screen with an image header on top lol.

But thank you all for the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind!

I'd love some recommendations ~ https://larvapuppy.neocities.org/:seal:

@Null
The first thing I noticed when entering your site is that you have a landing page with a flash warning, but the landing page itself is full of flashing gifs. If the purpose of your warning is to allow people to avoid eyestrain or epileptic seizures, the warning page itself being a trigger for those things defeats that purpose. I would recommend that you think about why you implemented this page and decide where to go with it based on that. If you want to keep the warning, you can use a still version of the gifs on that page instead of the animated version.

Next I went on to your main homepage. I love a good yellow-and-purple colour scheme, this is a very underrated colour combo imo!!  I also like all of your background textures and the fact that they seem hand-drawn. Nipchip is right when they say that is it a cozy site, and I think the hand-drawn quality contributes to that. Since aesthetics were being discussed, (for what it's worth) it reminds me of what I've seen people call whimsigoth.

I like the use of iframes, but on the pages where the iframe scrolls, the fact that the entire page scrolls as well makes the site a little bit tedious to navigate. The iframe itself takes up the majority of the window and contains most of the content, but there's an (at least) equally large space below your iframe where you have some scattered webrings and ads. The page body could be made static with only the iframe part made scrollable, and you could either line up all your rings and ads in a row at the bottom, or keep them on your dedicated links page. You'd have to make sure that the iframe's size is calculated relative to the window size rather than by pixels etc, but I think it would make the experience more pleasant. Please enjoy a goofy mock up which I'm attaching to this post  :ha:

I see what you are talking about here, and i probably should have fixed it sooner anyway  :drat:
I added an alert before that page loads and also slowed down the gif speed significantly, so hopefully that should be better :)

I tried to do something like this originally, but sadly I couldn't figure out how to get the height to adjust based on percentage; if you have any advice for that, I'd love to hear it!

I looked at your site and it's super cool!! I loved reading about your characters, and I would 100% read a short (or long) story about them if you ever write one! I would recommend adding a small space inbetween the header and the content as well as between the footer and the content, though that's just a stylistic choice. Another thing, that I think would make the site easier to navigate, would have the link back to home on the diary page be at the top instead of at the bottom

I think this is much better for your intended purpose! On my browser the flashing images don't appear until the user consents to see the page, but you still get to keep your cool design, so I think it works great.  :ha:

sadly I couldn't figure out how to get the height to adjust based on percentage; if you have any advice for that

I would recommend putting the top bit of the page with the navbar and iframe in one div styled to be around 75% of viewport height ("height:75vh;") and then making a second div for the ads and such that takes up the other 25. For horizontal spacing you can use viewport width (vw) in the same manner. You can play around with the numbers to see what proportions look best to you. Just make sure there are no margins etc around your divs (you might have to set the html and body elements to 0 margin and 0 padding, etc) so that it doesn't cause scrolling. If you want to space out the divs you could use padding instead, or if you really wanna use margins you can make the divs add up to slightly less than 100%. You can also add overflow-y:hidden and overflow-x:hidden on the body element to force scrollbars not to appear. Arranging things within these two divs will be easiest to do with flexboxes rather than floats imo but do what works best for you ! I can be more specific about this / go into more detail if you want, just pm me. :3

I always want to share more about my characters but am never sure if people would be interested, so this is really encouraging to hear. Thank you so much! :unite:

For the spacing, the current lack of space is deliberate, but I wonder if people find it claustrophobic? I thought it made for a cool quiltlike/grid look, but maybe my visitors are getting a different impression. If anyone else is reading this and would like to chime in please do!

I am going to go add a home link to the top of my diary page right now because you're right; it is pretty annoying to navigate without one! Thanks for that!
