In my case it's chips. Not the computer kind, the potato kind. The tasty ones.
IDK why. I just sometimes feel like snacks.
Don't ask. Please.

No, but I do happen to like pigeons and doves quite a lot. If I ever get to live in a house with a nice backyard in the future, I'm building an aviary and keeping a whole flock of rescued pigeons in there.

I've long loved birds, but perhaps my favourite are magpies. I wrote a whole blog post back in 2024 about why magpies are the best bird.

The light switches in my bedroom are guarded by a pair of magpies called Mordor and Morwenna, as painted by the wonderful Sue McLearie. Here's Mordor:

@Dan Q Today I learned that there are multiple species of magpie because the magpie I know does not have any blue feathers, has bright red eyes, and little devils during nesting season

They're as deadly as they look.

Ah, that Australian Magpie! Actually a very different species to the Eurasian Magpie; they only look superficially similar, but they're not really related at all!

(They were named back in the era that we didn't yet understand genetics, so we named things based on what they looked like, only later finding out that those names weren't really representative of what they are: e.g. the honey bear (not a bear, doesn't eat honey), honey badger (not a badger, although it does eat honey), mantis shrimp (neither a mantis nor a shrimp), and red panda (red, but not a panda). Some things just look like things they aren't; nature's a tricksy beast!)

Australian Magpies are artamids: the same family as butcherbirds and woodswallows. But Eurasian Magpies are corvids, like crows, ravens, jackdaws and jays.

Corvids are among the most-intelligent and curious of birds, and among the only birds to have ever demonstrated the construction and use of tools! They're also almost-all capable of learning to imitate speech and the calls of other birds.

I stare at birds a lot trying to comprehend the metaphor for a bird and try to learn from them. creatures with wing don't stay long in a one place, because the have wing. I rather try to imagine my thoughts as birds, in order for my brain to see that limit does not exist. sometimes thoughts and human mind is like a bird who forgot it has wings, you know what do I mean?

when your a flightless bird with wings, sometimes the humor of a bitter god just loses all its novelty. somehow you get to drunk to sleep, you spend the night driving with one eye closed to keep the lines from doubling.

means that never reach an end, thats what you get for living in your head, and you breathe 3 am breath, and tell yourself that this is for the best.

(lyrics are from the song "flightless bird" by roar (bandcamp)

Wait other people like to imagine themselves as birds too?? Best thread ever!  :ozwomp:

Seriously, ever since I was a little kid I wished I could fly. Back then I'd dress up in fake wings and fling myself down the stairs, but my knees can't take that kind of stress forever, so nowadays I just use my imagination; when a seagull glides overhead (I love seagulls, they're so obnoxious yet so graceful!), I feel the wind catching around me, I see the gross city streets and parking lots below me, all the little people sick and stressed in their noisy little vehicles, and think "It's so nice to get away, isn't it? It's so nice to just float up and away from this place, whenever I want. It's so nice."

I also love watching crows. We have a lot of crows in Winnipeg (after all, it's the murder capital of Canada!) and they have the coolest mode of exploring the city, flapping from street lamps to bus stop signs to the outstretched hands of grand marble statues. From way up there, do they ever watch me walking below and wish they had long legs, shoes for their feet, and arms that sway in a stride like mine? I imagine they might, but maybe that's just what I would do if I was a crow; even if I got my wish and woke up tomorrow with a little pen-knife beak and black wings, I'd still be idling-- watching other creatures wriggle, swim, and scitter around the fringes of noisy human society-- and dreaming of a different life. Maybe I'd start watching fish instead!

Anyways, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this... If anyone has any video games, movies, or music that resonate with this feeling, send 'em over!
