This is super nice! I love the tone balancing and the lighter purple; out of curiosity could you bullet point the key things that make it more readable to you? That would be helpful in improving themes here!
thank you! most of the changes we made were to make it more readable for our specific sensory issues: getting overwhelmed with too many colors, fonts, or patterns together. the forum was
technically readable, but we could only spend about five minutes on it before needing a break. we don't have low vision or epilepsy but we imagine some of our changes would help people with those disabilities too.
some of the issues we fixed with our custom theme:
- the yellow of links and the blue text was too bright, plus the contrast of the two next to each other was overwhelming. having everything mostly one color with the links being a little toned down is easier on our eyes
- the pattern behind the board titles (forum hub, world wide web, the shoutbox title, etc.) weren't overwhelming all the time, but added "busy-ness" that compounded with the other problems we had
- users being able to customize the font and color of their posts is a really fun idea, but hurt us to read sometimes. so we overrode everything to use the same serif font & the same color
- we didn't fix this in our css yet, but some animations can be overwhelming or hurt to look at for people who are more sensitive to that; adding an option (maybe in the sidebar where the theme selector is?) to pause animations and gifs sitewide would help a lot
