I finally forced myself to sit down and watch Ridley Scott's Napoleon from last year. Ooph its a bit of a slog, I had to take a few intermissions; but its a consistently good movie throughout

If anything its just nice to see an old school epic movie being made that doesn't involve superheros or eye-candy CGI (I'm sure there is lots of CGI, but I never once found myself thinking about it) ~ otherwise it was a bit dark and brooding for my taste ~ Ill have to watch Marie Antoinette (2006) to counter that  I also enjoyed the French Republic phase at the start where everyone referd to each other as Citizen, maybe I'll start referring to everyone here as Netizen x :ha:

i've watched a few movies recently so i'll drop my short reviews here (:

Late Night With The Devil - mid. i see the vision, i just don't think it was executed very well. i seem to be pretty alone in this line of thought though, most of my friends thought it was one of the best horror movies of 2023

Monkey Man - dev patel's directorial debut that feels absolutely nothing like a directorial debut. crazy good, i swear the climax is more satisfying than most things i've ever experienced. genuinely been considering giving it a rewatch.

Challengers - INCREDIBLE movie with a matching score (who can blame them, it's done by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). also a candidate for a rewatch. may thy racket chip and shatter lmao

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - also really enjoyed this but im a sucker for frances mcdormand. the comedy in it was a bit rough but thematically appropriate.

The Green Knight - another stunning dev patel movie, can he do no wrong? really loved the ending especially and thought it was interesting how similar the ending of this and Monkey Man are.

I recently watched that new horror movie The Substance, & had such a wild (enjoyable) ride... I don't want to post any spoilers, but the last... 15 minutes?? I felt like I was stuck on an out-of-control park carousel, lol

also rewatched Paranorman with some friends most recently, which was a nice, tamer sort of spooky for the Halloween season :)

Hm.. the last movie I watched was the second Star Trek movie. I'm not much of a Trekkie, since I never watched any of the series, but it was a really really good movie! /Technically/, I'm more of a Star Wars guy because I watched Episode 4 and 5, but I don't care a ton about either series, especially with the modern Star Wars stuff.

Star Trek movie. I'm not much of a Trekkie
I remember our local TV station had a day where they played EVERY Star Trek movie back to back; I had never seen Star Trek before that except for the occasional re-run when I was little, so it was my intro to the series ~ the movies are all great fun, even the modern ones and they ad a good place to start!

Recently I watched 500 Days of Summer (2009) ~ opph, Its sorta an anti-rom-com, I think its a movie everyone should watch in their teens/early 20s; its kinda heavy, but also fun! Zooey Deschanel has always been a bit of a celebrity crush for me, so she was a good fit  :innocent:  I don't know the lead guy so well, but he a great pick too, and overall it hit that balance between cozy 90s style movie, but also having a modern edge.

500 Days of Summer ending discussion
I didn't like the ending, I felt they tried to make it too positive when the best parts of the movie were about dealing with the difficulty and loss; I would have liked it more if they left it entirely open, without the implication that the character found love again ~ it would have been a stronger message to say its ok not to need a relationship.

I've been pleasantly surprised with some recent horror movies I've watched (as someone who is not normally into modern horror).

The Substance, Late Night with the Devil and VHS Beyond are all bangers :)

My husband convinced me to watch the substance and while it was too brutal for me to get through it all he insists that it was exceptionally good. I also would like to recommend the substance. :ozwomp:  :ozwomp:

Last  movie I watched was The Substance and its the first movie I hope I get to see in theaters again. If not, I hope the blu ray comes out very very soon! No spoilers, but the last part of the movie was INSANE  :ozwomp: Also, the music was pretty nice and I just found the soundtrack online so  :eyes:
