how does one become more active on forums

I've recently begun moving away from social media, and have begun to move onto other things such as forums, Crosstalk, and other things to talk on, but i tend to have issues with being shy on forums and not really being known makes me nervous. Ontop of that, im very forgetful, as i kind of forgot Melonland existed

How do you personally post more on forums and be more active? I'd love some tips since I'd like to post here more !

This is a fantastic forum post and you're shown great bravery in writing it!

I don't have an right-for-everybody answer, but what I'd recommend is finding threads on which you have an opinion or something to share... and contribute!

Here on MelonLand, at least, there's absolutely no stigma in digging up old threads and bringing them back to the light. So start reading some threads and chip in! Do you roleplay (or would you like to)? Tell this thread people about it! Interested in this person's worldbuilding efforts? Go read them, then tell them what you think! Got opinions on fountain pens? This thread would love to hear about it! Or any of the other hundreds of threads!

You've made the first and boldest step. Now let a little more of yourself show, in whatever topics interest you! Don't overthink it: we're all just other-humans here, doing human things. And we're friendly (I promise!).

to be honest, i don't ever aim to "post more". i post when a topic interests me. i think that's the healthiest approach to these things; the idea of posting more feels too social media-y, where posting frequently keeps your posts visible. melonland will be waiting for you even if you forget about us for a while. i just hope you come back when you remember and say hello!

forums are for conversation. a forum can only exist so long as conversation happens. assume everyone posting on a forum wants to see you post too, because it adds to the conversation.

dan beat me to it, but i was also going to add about the "necroposting" (adding replies to old posts) thing.

people can't know you unless you make yourself known. it's a weird and sometimes stressful process, but it will be worth it if it's something you want to do.

This is in the context of being on this forum, Melonland Forum. I think the two replies above me have better things to say, but it doesn't hurt to chime in with my own "nuggets of wisdom".

What helps me chime back onto the forum is to contribute to/just finding a thread I'm interested in and letting it notify me via e-mail when someone replies to it (this was actually the only reason I logged onto the forum today btw). The chatroom in here often entices me to come back to the website too. And, on the rare occasions that I actually have art I want to share, I'll post them on the site's gallery just because.

Basically, all you need to do is try to make an effort to interact with the forum and you'll be active on here in no time!!! There's an insane amount of things to do here I've learned, so don't be surprised if you accidentally sink a few hours just hanging around here!!!

To be honest, I feel like a lot of my activity on here is messing around on the chat. I find the ability to add code in very fun and silly. I should probably post more often though  Luckily, everyone I've met on here has been pretty nice! Shoutout to all my buddies!

i'd say at the very least: dont try to force yourself to reply to everything, you will make some people hate you and eventually get exiled from stuff and go through a spiral

While you shouldn't worry too much about posting enough, it helps if a forum has RSS feeds or the ability to notify you about replies to a thread via email. That's what I do.
