Forum keeps logging me out

Hey, I wasn't sure where to post this, but I've noticed this forum keeps logging me out on every browser and computer I use. It keeps me logged in as long as I'm on the site, but the moment I exit or close the browser, it logs me out.

I've tried this with multiple browsers, most of them don't have any settings set to delete cookies, and it does it with all of them.

Can I do anything to fix this or is this a server-side thing?

What are your cookie settings? Do you have an extension or setting that clears cookies periodically or when you close the browser?

The way your login works is, there's a cookie with a code saved on your computer when you login, and every forum page you visit that code is sent to the server and its like "HEY ITS YOU <3" - but if that cookie is missing, then the servers like "wooo u?"

I'm mainly using Yesterweb Surf+, and it was keeping me logged in fine up until recently, and now I have to log in every time, and it's also started to give me an error when I do it, but let me through anyway.

I've also been using Retrozilla on Windows 98 to access the forum, and I have no settings to delete cookies on that, but it logs me out anyway.

Hmm thats strange - it doesn't sound like a cookie issue then; but nothing on the forum has changed in over a year that would effect logins. I havent had any issues myself, but if anyone else has please chime in!

Are you connecting to forum.melonking or forum.melonland? (or switching between them?) because melonking is long since unsupported and might cause issues.

Hmm, maybe Yesterweb Surf+ points to Melonking. I’m not sure if there’s any way to confirm. I’ll have a look tomorrow.

I have an idea! I recently enhanced forum security and flagged all cookies as secure HTTPS cookies! I bet thats the issue - your windows 98 machine and the YW+ are both using proxies to downgrade the site to HTTP right? Thats breaking your cookies.

As a test I disabled this option - see if your login issue goes away and let me know

No problems here on another Windows 98 machine.
I get logged out too, when I close the browser. However that's a desired behaviour, because my Netscape 9.0.0.6 clears the cache and the cookies on every shut-down.
Retrozilla and a patched Netscape actually support some HTTPS ciphers, but not the brand-newest one. At least that makes every HTTPS site accessable at the moment without needing proxies.

That seems to have fixed it. I never had to log in to YW+ this time.

As for Windows 98, I'm not actually using a proxy, the HTTPS site just works on Retrozilla out of the box.

Great I will leave this option turned off! (It just means that when you login with YW+, your account is a bit less secure, but only if your computer is compromised in some way - aaanndd I dont think there are many hackers out there trying to steal your ML account )

Okay, nevermind, I just got logged out... and suddenly logged back in...

This is weird...

EDIT: Okay, I think I realise what's going on. It shows me as logged off in the index page, but if I navigate to any page other than the login screen, it logs me back in. I think this might be the case even when the HTTPS setting was on.

That almost certainly means your trying to connect to forum.melonking - all the buttons and links will try and redirect you to melonland - so your logged into melonland.net but you keep trying to connect to melonking - update your links and it should fix everything

Well, I'm not sure if YW+ is being supported any more, it seems to default to melonking and there's not much I can do about that.

It actually did! I was logged in instantly and the shoutbox loaded!
