I keep a media log and have a section for each major type of media I consume (Books, Movies, TV, etc) and a "Slice of Life" directory I put everything else in. Usually I write about whatever comes to mind, though I try to avoid anything too personal or "intense" since I wouldn't want to lose opportunities from someone connected to me IRL reading it. I also don't keep a schedule at all since I'm often very busy IRL, and I don't want to obligate myself to write when I'm not feeling it.

at first when i started a blog i wasnt actually sure what i wanted to put on it but as time went on i realised that the best thing to put on it are my goals and my progress toward my personal goals.

i dont think anyone else reads them and it’s more than enough if i am the only one that frequents my blog

I blog about things that come into my mind that are blog worthy. Sometimes i will write some snippets that i later might use to write a blogpost.
Most of the subjects are about the internet, and the fediverse.

Recently i wrote a blogpost on a install of GEM running on top of a virtual dos machine. The latest post about forums was written in Office 3.0 running on Windows 3.11.
The former blogpost was about finding a distraction free writer for blogposts.

probably the most common thing i write in my own blogs are probablyy weird ideas or infodumps, or weird dreams i have  :dive:

There isn't a set topic in my blog section, it ranges from life updates to random topics that have been stuck in my mind for ages. Writing blogs made me realise I like rambling way more than I thought, it is so fun to write when it is not for homework!

Looking back in my past blog topics, some of them are quite interesting, like thinking about the meaning of twinkle twinkle little star, my strange phobias, and the games I enjoyed as a kid. I sometimes write about what recently have happened in my life, I don't like writing about sad stuff though, venting feels a bit good, but I don't like reading them in the future (I sometimes read my old blogs).

I tend to try and write a blog entry when I have some big idea that I want to get across to people. The issue with that is I cant write about it until I feel its fully formed in my mind (that can take months). Then the problem is that once you start to write you realize the idea is a lot less formed than you thought!

This is actually a problem I sometimes get into. There are topics I found interesting, but then when I write it, it is only two paragraphs long! I probably throw away the draft and save the topic for the future.

Lately I don't blog as much, stress tends to block my creativity... Or maybe I have yapped so much, I am running out of things to say?

At the moment, I had used DreamWidth as a general "here's what's been going on" whereas most of the time I end up microblogging on other sites. For me, the problem with blogging isn't that I don't have the interest in doing so - it's that I forget about it a whole lot. I'm more accustomed to the idea of what Tumblr and Pillowfort already do. With one being less trustworthy and the other I'm afraid of it not getting the proper funding (wish I was able to but I can't and end up sharing to a small amount of folks that do follow), I just don't have that much in me for longer posts most of the time.

I do have to give Dreamwidth the credit for the ability to submit entries via email as that helps a whole lot in working on it a bit at a time... Although I could do better at actually remembering to make a post once in a while!  :drat:

I had done some posts that were game reviews and some that were just "State of the mental health" kind of ordeal. In some ways, I rather do it that way than have a built in blog for the website especially since I have both Nekoweb and Neocities when the latter was trying to introduce an AI helper and everyone lost their crap over it (for good reason, nonetheless).

I've been working on a series I call the Online Survival Guide which talks about netiquette, online safety, personal websites, escaping social media, and generally just sort of a "how to stop being chronically online" guide. Outside of that, I've written blogs about personal stuff and site updates, many of which have been deleted from my site because I found them cringy and not important enough to leave up hah. They're all still on the Internet Archive since I have a plugin that archives every page I go to if it hasn't already been archived within 24 hours, so it's not ~lost media~ or anything :ok:

In the future, I'm going to have several "blogs" throughout sections of my site, mostly reviews about concerts, albums, bands and art/artists (maybe some about other media like video games, shows, or manga). I tried doing album reviews way back in the early days of the website, but I didn't enjoy it too much because I felt like I was being too Anthony Fantano about it. I abandoned the idea until recently, when I saw my friend Lydels post album of the month reviews on her site and it was more casual and there were no numbers involved or anything. It opened my eyes and reminded me what personal sites are for. I shouldn't be too formal all the time on there, it's literally just my website, I can allow myself to show my personality beyond the way it looks and the contents of its pages.

My blogging is spread across a range of topics that I think are disparate, such as art, writing, tamagotchis, plushies, magic the gathering, meta posts, and life updates. I'd been rolling around the idea of eventually steering my blogging into a specific topic, but the more I think about it the more I don't want to. Keeping my blog a bit eclectic is how I dissuade myself from any particular pidgeonholing and possible monetization. Keep it messy and keep it human and keep it free.

That's all about my main RSS feed connected blog.

I also have my semi hidden blog called my Stray Thoughts where I put my even messier thinkings without any art or photos to accompany them. What's in the Stray Thoughts might end up as more fleshed out blog posts, and what's in my blog posts might end up as part of my more curated Garden (if I finally start posting something new to it haha).

I have this kind of tier system going on.

The most messy thoughts are in my hand written journal, which are between me and myself. Stray Thoughts are semi-hidden and I'm a bit more rough and off the cuff with my opinions and will talk often about mundane life stuff there. My RSS feed blog is what I put more directed thoughts on, sometimes brought out by my Stray Thoughts but more often are subjects I've had in my drafts for a hot minute. Also my RSS blog has comments where my Stray Thought do not. Then maybe from my RSS blog I will write some Garden posts.

If I did have a main topic I blog about, it's very likely art. I draw a lot and have created a lot of comics, so art is often on my mind. Though I wouldn't call myself an art blogger. The topic being common is simply consequential.

Writing (and by extension blogging) is a little hard for me and I very easily get self conscious about it so most of the writing I do is in cheap little notebooks I turn into private diaries where I really only record the things I do that day (I don't like writing about my feelings, to me it's like forcing myself to sit through them, acknowledge they are real, and it's uncomfortable). Currently 70% through my second diary, and the only reason I am able to fill them up in the pace I write is because I like using them as scrapbooks too and pasting junk I collect like receipts, tickets, stickers etc onto the pages. Makes it more fun than just plainly writing.

I have a small blog section on my site where I just write about anything I find worth sharing about or want more people to know about. I only really write longform stuff here since I have some small anxiety with writing on social media... There's only a few blog entries for now but I'm hoping to add more and more as I continue. Sometimes when I'm shy or when I want to restrict my audience I'll write in indonesian rather than english (in my diary, I almost always write in indonesian).

I think that I've always replaced writing with drawings, and in turn I use it more to communicate and express myself, since I've drawn ever since I was a kid and it comes to me more naturally. I wonder if other visual artists do the same thing?

There isn't much to my neocities blog right now; just an intro post, a review of the (at the time) recent deltarune chapters and a rant about commentary youtube. I'm currently writing an essay for the blog about how the general public treats the topic of SA in media and i'm using the indie horror game "my eyes deceive" as a basis for it :3

I have a whole list of stuff i want to write about for my neocities and a lot of my ideas are essays about things i think need to be talked about, analysis of stuff i like (IE discussing the meanings of certain songs, crafting fan theories about video games, etc) and personal stories from my life.

I feel like there comes a point where you wrote too much to the point you cant write anymore. I have the same experience. I yap a lot and started to notice my posts (outside blogging as well) start to get slimmer and slimmer as if my brain is exhausted and annoyed by it. Doing a break usually helps a bit but the shorter wording still often remains,  even if I like writing because I'm not sure what to say. Some topics simply don't offer a ton of words to note down and everythingyou wanted to say have been said.

I often like to ask myself questions to elaborate on but I'm not going to lie I can't stand it anymore.  I have become more of a casual writer than an informative one, because of how draining explaining or thinking about making sense can be. It's a lot less stressful not thinking about "oh no do people understand what I'm talking about?". Just blogging for yourself (like mindlessly talking to yourself) is often quite relaxing.

most of my blog posts are about whatever's on my mind, serious or unserious! like two of my last posts were on the fact i was losing it over a song sample and a longwinded love letter to one of my favourite anime series haha

i'm pretty new to the whole blog thing, so sometimes i get a little short on ideas because i don't know what other people write about. so i'm always hunting down other blogs to read for inspiration  i've been really enjoying going through this thread and looking at what other people have posted!

If I may quote Manuel Moreale:

Quote
Blogging: you’re doing it right

That’s all you need to know. If you’re doing it, you’re doing it right. If you have decided to reclaim ownership of your place on the web, you’re doing it right. It doesn’t matter how you did it. It doesn’t matter if you’re self-hosting or using a SAAS. It doesn’t matter if your content lives on a database or in a TXT file. It doesn’t matter if you did everything yourself or you paid someone to do it for you. It doesn’t matter if you post once a day or once a year. What matters is that you’re doing it. Your effort is commendable. You deserve to be thanked so, thank you.

That's the single most important thing to know about blogging, in my opinion. You have permission to write stuff. Don't overthink the "how" and "why" and "what".

Personally: I write about... just about anything. My blog ends up pretty much all over the place. This year I've managed to blog every single day (I set out to blog on every one of the first hundred as a particularly hardcore twist on the #100DaysToOffload challenge but I've kept going since) and a lot of it has been about my experience of getting my house flooded, having to move, etc.. But outside of that and other "personal life" stuff, this year so far I've been blogging about the limits of the preservation of old videogames, cheating at puzzle games, random silly things I hate, weird games, how to run your own VPN provider, the weirdness of "achievements" systems on pornographic websites, learning to be a hacker, nostalgia, music, and computers, roomscale VR with a HTC Vive (which still rocks, ten years on), getting my birth certificate retroactively corrected with my current name, the :has and :not CSS operators, among other things.

Oh, and I also blogged about answering somebody's question about my "process" for blogging... which turns out to boil down to: when you think of something, start a draft; revisit your drafts often; eventually, publish.
