Hi all!

I just released https://piclog.blue, it's a site to upload JPEG pictures. You'll notice that the quality of the pictures is really bad! It's mostly to keep the size very small... but also because in a way, blurry pictures make it harder to identify us, and makes us focus on the pattern rather than the detail. I think there are many places where we can upload high quality pictures, so here's one to upload very low quality ones. :)

It's possible to fully customize the profile with CSS and to embed pictures to our sites. I hope you enjoy it!

I really like this idea! I'm about to start uploading some pics I took yesternight! Idea, maybe you could add a function to the site that removes metadata from the images on upload, for privacy but it could also be a cool way to keep the idea of focusing on the images.

Oooo I think this is my favourite one of your sites so far  :ozwomp:

I ran into a few issues like a "413 Payload Too Large" issue (with nice comic-sans text  ) and another issue with files that have .'s in the name - but otherwise, it works really well! You might be able to do some local pre-compression in Javascript to allow bigger image uploads (particularly useful on mobiles that cant easily reduce size).

I would actually be really interested in making an app for this if you make an API for it  :omg: (Warning Iv never actually made an app - but i understand the theory  I still wanna do an iMood app too! )

Also, have you read In Defense of the Poor Image by Hito Steyerl (Iv been reading some of her newer writing today) it was the first thing that poped into my head!

Here is my profile, I'm member no9!! https://piclog.blue/profile.php?id=9  :ha:  :eyes:

man, as someone who genuinely loves old, nasty, unloved technology, this is right up my alley! pretty much everyone who's ever touched a computer immediately learns to hate crusty jpegs, but this site just totally goes against the grain and unabashedly, unironically embraces them. i'll totally be making an account and giving it a try - it feels like the image equivalent to status.cafe, which is a fun niche i'm glad to see filled.

i also agree with melon and would love to see an API available for it!

Thanks a lot! Adding a part that removes metadata is actually a great idea! Maybe it can save a few bytes as well. I'll definitely be looking into it!

Good feedback, and local pre-compression in javascript is actually a great idea. I'm thinking of allowing bigger payload but not sure I like the idea of having multiple MB sent to the server for every picture, so local pre-compression seems like a great tradeoff.

Wooooooow this would be incredibly cool! Are you thinking of a mobile app? While there's no JSON API, it's still possible to use the REST API. For example, to upload a picture, we can send a POST request to /upload.php with the correct payload. For signing-in, we call POST /login.php, and retrieve the session. We then send the session as a cookie (by setting the HTTP header) to any request that requires it. Low tech, but should work!

Thanks for the link! I didn't know about it, but it was a great read this morning.

Here with some feedback!  :ha:  I love this site a lot, have been using it here and there and now I really wanted to put the feed onto my homepage. but- I am only getting a broken image when I try to implement the widget. If this could be fixed somehow, it would be perfect ^^

the current widget code is this and I feel like something is missing there perhabs?
Code
<a href="profile.php?id=8"><img src="latest.php?id=8"></a>

Edit: tested and it should be this I think. Works now

Code
 <a href="https://piclog.blue/profile.php?id=8"><img src="https://piclog.blue/latest.php?id=8"></a>

Thank you so much! I've also fixed the "widget" part of the site thanks to what you found. :) I'm glad you like it!
