Hello !
I'm going to throw drawings at you until they become good.

Feel free to look at things i did before here!

"Cauteleux", 2023-06/2023-07
Sorry for the quality of the picture this time, it should get properly
addressed if i post a next image. (The lines on the ones before have better clarity)

wooah thats soo detailed! i love it, it seems quite strange/surreal to me, with shapes that are slightly uncomfortable/unfamiliar. and a lack of colour making it feel almost quieter than I am used to? these are all good things! it makes me hear a sort of drone or quiet siren, but that's probably just me. I like how it meanders, and draws you to follow it all the way through, and how much it reminds me of a map!!

Quite a late reply (on my end) but thanks for telling me what it reminds you and what it makes you feel ! Now that i really ponder a bit, the map aspect may
be something that i've been aiming at, though i might define it with different terms. By the way, i have to mention that Surrealism is such a great movement,
although its founders may have been a bit prone to overtly criticizing others for not being pure enough (see the death of Anatole France for example), it's
given us so many great artists over the past century. Though i may not be on the same level as any of the surrealist clique, it's nice being a part of a movement.
(Yes, this all stems from you saying that it's surreal, a bit of a tangent.)

These are great! I can tell a lot of time went into the detailed parts, but I also like the use of negative space.

i love these!! they kinda remind me of maps you'd find at the front of a fantasy novel. but a really weird one, where instead of continents there's a bunch of faces and cool shapes. the linework is really intricate!!

Using negative space is always a lot of fun and it's not used as much as it should be.

That's weird because it seems like it's a common comparison that i get since i've started in this
"style", i guess it's partly because there isn't really any movement or life distilled into those
drawings, making it very two dimensional (for me that's a good thing). Thanks for the linework
compliment, linework is almost all that matters to define my "style" besides shapes that i find nice.

It really is! The shading is much more intense on this one, and the elements are much more well-defined. Lovely work!

Your art is gorgeous, it gives me nostalgia for old '70s and '80s pulp art and designs, it reminds me rather specifically of artwork done in 1976 by Norman Saunders and Basil Wolverton for a set of collectible stickers by Topps trading cards called 'Ugly Stickers' but they were FAR from ugly, they were GORGEOUSLY designed pieces of art with beautifully detailed creatures. You can see some examples below:

Joke's on you, they were all good. Retourner is my favorite of the bunch so far, love the line work.

Thanks for making me discover Basil Wolverton, what a striking way of drawing characters. I haven't lived with a large exposure to this kind
of illustration since american statirical comics or even comix in general aren't that well imported outside of Crumb and Corben, it still
seems quite fresh to me. I'd like to ask for more if you have more !

Oh I am glad you liked them!  :ozwomp:

You can check out some of his stuff here in this gallery. There is also this page of Ugly Stickers featuring Norman Saunder's work. Here is a nice little archive!

I'd love to own some of their work in real/physical media but all I have are sites and scans.
